Dora & Dirk Schonewille

From back-alley neighbours to family, we have been so blessed that Auntie Eleanor and Uncle Roy adopted us. They helped us be better parents. Auntie Eleanor baked a gift of love for our birthdays, and took time to play Skippo. Every time they returned from Phoenix, Christmas came early. Auntie Eleanor would hand out all the gifts she had chosen with care. Once we surprised them with a homemade sign, and a stocked fridge. Uncle Roy was my adopted spiritual Father. I remember one time that Uncle Roy and I were standing outside, on the garage pad, and he gave me an envelope. (I knew it was money). I said, “Uncle Roy, I cannot take it.” With his eyes looking into mine, his words touched my heart: “Dora, it says in the Good Book: It is more blessed to give than to receive; allow me to be blessed.” — a profound life lesson on how the Lord provides for his children, and how we are instruments in God’s hands. An incredible law of grace. I just thought, Auntie Eleanor is already in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and he has wiped away every tear. To be in the presence of the Word, the Truth and the Life — beyond expression. For us it has been a month, for her: She is living in-the-moment for eternity — home with our heavenly Father… Psalm 139: 13-18
