On Thursday, December 11th, after a long and well-lived life of 93 years, our dear Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Dennis (Jack) West has gone to join his beloved wife Marjorie.
Dennis was born June 30, 1921 in London, England. He will be greatly missed by his children: Garry (Margriet), Ian (Rosemary), Trevor (Helen), Neil (Alison), Denise (Brian) Farrugia, and Hazel (Perry) Larsen.
A family man to the core, Dad took great pride and joy in his 16 Grandchildren, and 6 Great Grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brothers Ron and Vic and is survived by his brothers Eric (Connie) in Canada, Alan (Margaret), his devoted little sister Pamela (William) in England, and many nieces and nephews. Dennis will also be missed by Maurice and Peggy Otway in Ringwood, England.
During WWII Dennis enjoyed a career in the experimental shop of Hawker Aircraft; building, modifying the iconic Hawker Hurricane and many more prototypes. Arriving in Canada in 1952 he continued his aeronautical career with Northwest Industries (later CAE). In the 1960’s he helped create, then manage, the fibreglass products division of CAE until retirement.
Dad balanced this with Marjorie and a large family – the larger the family gathering, the better, right up until the end.
Retirement was long and enjoyable with Marjorie with an emphasis on Family vacations from Corfu to Florida to Hawaii.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the staff of the Allen Gray Care Centre and his care companion Deanna Enns.
A memorial service to celebrate Dennis’ life and share memories will be held Wednesday, December 17 at Knox Evangelical Church, 8403-104 St. Edmonton at 11 AM. Refreshments to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, 5005-28 Ave Edmonton T6L 7G1
