With the passing of
September 27, 2015,
His loving wife (Ann) and children; Denise (Myron), Jan (Steve), Danny (Teena), Mike (Brenda), wish to celebrate the legacy of a life extremely well lived.
Born, April 3, 1933 in Calgary he became a friend, husband, uncle, father, grandfather (Gregory, Jaclyn, Bradley, Elizabeth, Royden, Benjamin, Daniel, Jennifer, Lucas, Nicole) great grandfather (Monique), inventor, Edmontonian, community league president, skier, hockey, ringette and soccer fan, teller of long jokes with no punch lines, sailor, cabin builder, self-proclaimed opera singer, craftsman, genealogist, lover of cheap jug wine, enthusiastic though he claimed unlucky card player, gazer of stars, wine maker, Jamie Platz Y Exercise and Coffee Club member, dreamer and inspiration.
Although a dedicated and successful employee of AGT for over 37 years he never put work before family or friends. He welcomed all to his beloved lake lot and knew the value of when to work hard and when to put down the tools to enjoy lunch or a jump in the lake. He had a strong back to support us when we were troubled, a soft shoulder when we needed to cry, the wisdom to let others be wise and gentle hands when we needed a lift or a pat on the back. There were never troubles only problems to be solved.
We wish to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Southgate Care Society Third Floor for providing a safe and comfortable harbour for the last stormy years of his life.
On a blustery fall day, with enough wind to consider hoisting the sail for one last trip across the lake, or making four small kites out of paper bags, green garden sticks and string, he no longer had Alzheimer’s.
We would like to invite you to share your memories and to gather with us for a celebration of his life on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Serenity North Central Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue
To be followed by fellowship, good food, great stories, poor jokes and even worse singing. Dress comfortable, towel dresses optional.
Instead of flowers, we ask that donations to The Alberta Alzheimer’s Society or to The Jamie Platz YMCA Strong Kids Fund be considered.
“He is with his memories now”
