On August 18, 2018 Jean-Maurice Joseph DeBlois of Stony Plain, formerly of Fort McMurray, AB passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years.
Maurice was born in Ascot Corner, QC on January 16, 1926 to Alphonse and Alice DeBlois, the oldest son of 10 children. At 24 years old he ventured out west to find work and eventually met Marianne, his loving wife of 60 years. After working at various places in Saskatchewan and Alberta, the family moved in 1966 to Fort McMurray. Suncor (GCOS) was constructing their oil sands plant and Maurice was hired as a carpenter / scaffolder for Catalytic. He worked at this site until his retirement at age 63.
Maurice and Marianne continued to stay in Fort McMurray for another 20 years so they could be close to their family and friends. In 2009, they relocated to an acreage in Stony Plain, AB next to their youngest daughter. Last year, age finally caught up with Maurice and he moved into The Good Samaritan care facility. Our family was blessed to have him in our lives for such a long time as a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Maurice leaves to mourn his wife Marianne, and their four children Marilyn (Darcy) Rustad, Mariette (Matt) Voigt, Louis DeBlois (Cecile Nanemahoo), and Lucie (Derek) Walsh. He also leaves behind 11 grand-children, 6 great grandchildren, four sisters, one brother, many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 8th – 2pm, at the Lighthouse Church, 49 Boulder Boulevard, Stony Plain, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Good Samaritan Stony Plain. https://gss.org/donate/ . (choose the facility under the fund designation). The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the care Maurice received at this care center. Sincere thanks also to family and friends who sent their expression of sympathy and kindness.
