Wrapped in the love of his family, Joe passed to his eternal home on May 27, 2022 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Joe was born in Italy and immigrated as a child with his family to Thunder Bay, Ontario. He was proud of his heritage and embraced the richness of two cultures, something he delighted in sharing with his children and grandchildren. After obtaining a diploma in Forestry from Dorset College, he moved to Winnipeg to work for the Canadian Forest Service. He met and married Carolyn, the love of his life and with his young family transferred to Edmonton, settling in Sherwood Park. After completing a degree in Economics from the University of Alberta, Joe continued to work at the Canadian Forest Service in a variety of roles until his retirement.

Forestry was the backdrop for Joe’s interest in the natural world. Whether it was fishing and hiking with grandchildren or travelling abroad he was always looking to explore the road less travelled.

Joe was an independent, innovative thinker. His curious and patient mind was fascinated with how and why things and people worked. He loved to tinker and problem solve. There was no home project he wouldn’t tackle and he continuously relied on utilizing whatever parts and materials could be found in his neatly organized, but incredibly cluttered, garage and workshop. He recycled long before recycling was popular.

Joe had a strong work ethic, a desire to learn and a will to improve himself and the world around him. His quiet demeanour and dislike for small talk hid a dry, quick wit and an at times aggravating penchant for teasing. He explored some of his interests through his involvement with the Edmonton Old Timers Fishing Club and the Cardiac Athletic Society of Edmonton.

Joe had great love for his family and they came first but it was his grandchildren, Ethan and Mattea that were his cherished favourites.

Joe leaves to grieve his passing his loving wife and partner Carolyn. Sons David, Dennis (Rena); the joys of his life grandchildren Ethan, Mattea; siblings Tonia (Attilio), Dino (Margaret), Claudio (Helen); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Mario.

A Celebration of Life for Joe will be held at 1:00 p.m. MDT, Saturday June 11, 2022 at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 4 Raven Drive, Sherwood Park , Alta. The service will also be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook. Links available on the St. Thomas website home page
