In loving memory of David Olav Monsen
July 5, 1937 (Prince Albert, Sask.) – September 9, 2015 (Edmonton)
It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to David after a very long struggle with Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). David passed away September 9, 2015 amidst much love and support from his family and friends. We were blessed to have had so many wonderful years with him and are grateful he no longer suffers. He will be loved and missed in our hearts forever, a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Son of the late Astrid and Olav Monsen, David is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years Mary Ann; daughter Stephanie (Stewart) & her husband Shawn Stewart; daughter Pamela Monsen; and much loved grandson Maxx Stewart; sisters Mildred (Millie) Sillett and Mary Kerr; niece Karen Andari, her husband Steve and their son Joshua; and cousin Peter Monsen.
We are very proud of David’s many accomplishments including his lifetime membership with the Alberta Association of Architects, his work to foster Alberta’s building codes, lifetime Rotarian, Scandinavian Businessmen’s Club and Torskeklubben. In 2005, Dave was awarded the Government of Alberta’s Centennial Medal for his contributions to our province in his capacity as a former Director of Building Standards with the Government of Alberta. Active in his community, David served on his condo board for 5 years including 3 years as president.
Always a practical man, David’s wish was to not have funeral services but he preferred each of you remember him in a way special to you. An informal viewing for family and close friends will take place Thursday, September 17th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Service 5311- 91 Street NW in Edmonton, with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
