David Henry Edey

-

David Edey passed away at Laurier House Lynnwood on January 10, 2019. He was 66 years old.

David is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Wendy; his son Mark, daughter-in-law Tracey Robertson, and their children Carys and Lewis; his daughter Ruth, son-in-law Derek Haley, and their children Ben, Evan, and Clara; and his son Lawrence, Lawrence’s good friend Heather Rosenthal, and her children Haley and Emma. David will be deeply missed by his brother and sister-in-law John and Marie Edey, and his sister Lorna McKenzie, along with Wendy’s family, as well as many nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents John (Harry) and Martha (Iris) Edey, and his sisters Gwyneth and Linda. David also had many dear friends and colleagues who were an important part of his life.

David was widely known for his work at the City of Edmonton, his many volunteer activities, and his engagement in community. He was a man of the highest integrity, who was deeply loved for his leadership, his kindness, his courage, his dedication, and his unfailing generosity.

David was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy several years ago, and he gave his final gift, the donation of his brain to Multiple System Atrophy research at the Mayo Clinic, with the hope that his life, and his death, might help scientists to prevent the suffering of others.

A service to honour David’s life will be held at Mill Woods United Church, 15 Grand Meadow Crescent, on Friday, January 18, at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception.

Dear Wendy and family,
I read with sadness the notice in the New Trail about David’s passing.
I remember fondly our time at Acadia together and knowing you both when David and I returned to Alberta.
I have happy memories of attending your wedding.
With love, Jane and Campbell
