Darlene (Herlis) Kalmbach (née Burke) of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away of cancer on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 68 years of age.
Darlene was born on May 25, 1949 in Barrhead, Alberta, to Herman and Lois (Johnston) Burke, of Bloomsbury, Alberta. She was a 1967 graduate of Barrhead High School and married Ron Kalmbach of Barrhead at Mellowdale Community at Christ Lutheran Church on August 16, 1969. While working numerous part time jobs throughout her life, Darlene was primarily a wife, homemaker and devoted mother to their children.
In 1991, Darlene and Ron purchased a lake cottage at Lake Isle and enjoyed entertaining many friends and family members throughout the years. Darlene loved having people out to the lake, enjoying company, feeding the squirrels, walking the dog and concocting countless fantastic meals for their many guests.
Darlene was very active in her home parish of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Edmonton, her local TOPS group and worked as a recruiter at the Heart And Stroke Foundation.
Darlene is survived by her husband Ron; son Mark Kalmbach (Kristin) and grandchildren Jadriene and Jaxon; daughter Leanne McMorran (Scott) and grandchildren Erinn and Eden. She is also survived by her mother, Lois Burke, her sister Beverly (Alex) Larson; brother Tom (Jackie) Burke. Also mourning her loss are numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Herman Burke, as well as her grandparents and also numerous and much loved family and friends.
Darlene’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018, at 2pm at the Christian Life Centre (next door to Serenity Funeral Service North) 10123 Princess Elizabeth Ave, Edmonton, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Darlene’s name at Christ Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Society/Cemetery Fund, 60301 HWY 769, Mellowdale, AB., T7N 1N2, or at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
