Daniel Albert Edinga

It is with great sadness and loving memories that the family of Dan Edinga announces his passing on March 19, 2019 at the age of 69 years. Dan was born in Edmonton in August 1949 and adopted by Albert and Lucile Edinga, the second child between sisters Cheryl and Judy. Dan is survived and missed by his wife, Carol, sons Brian (Rosa) and Randy (Steph), and grandchildren Miranda, Mason, and Sam. Family was Dan’s number one priority. Whether as a son, husband, dad, brother, uncle, or his favorite role grandpa he devoted the time needed to support family through difficult times and celebrating the good times. This care extended to friends of the family as well, to whom Dan was known as fiercely loyal and willing to help in any situation. Beyond his unwavering commitment to family and friends, Dan took great pride in his long career of public service, where his reputation as a trustworthy, straightforward, and generous colleague led to many life-long friendships. Even in his several post-retirement jobs, Dan never failed to cultivate strong relationships and serve as a great supporter of those in need of an understanding ear or shoulder.

A memorial service and celebration of Dan’s life will be held at 2 PM, April 6 at Serenity Funeral Service (10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton). In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in Dan’s name to the Lung Association, Alberta and NWT .

My deepest condolences to the entire Edinga family. I cannot express in words how much I treasured Dan’s friendship and that of his wonderful family. In the nearly 40 years of our friendship we enjoyed some wonderful and enjoyable times. From our early days of hours and hours of “board hockey” tournaments, to our somewhat misguided thoughts of becoming hog farmers, our years of friendship and Dan’s unwavering support meant so much to me. Dan will always have a place in my heart. I miss him.

I am so very sorry to hear about your family’s loss. I had the privilege and honour of working with Dan for a number of years during my early management days at the old Parkland DO back in the early 90’s. Dan was instrumental in providing me with a number of perspectives over the years that I believe helped me to become a better manager. As mentioned above Dan was fiercely loyal and dedicated to the well being of his staff and would always go the extra mile to support them in managing the day to day challenges and demands of their respective jobs. Dan was a good human being and will always be one of my all time
favourites. In my view Dan was an example to all in how we should should treat and respect each other in our day to day interactions and relationships. My very deepest sympathies and condolences to the entire Edinga family.
