CLARKE, Richard Ronald

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Rick.

Rick passed peacefully at home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Rick is survived by his wife (Barb) and partner of 40 years. He is also survived by his children, Mackenzie (Christine) and 2 beautiful grandsons (Beau and Braxton), and Mallory (Scott). Also mourning his loss are his brother Jim (Marianne) and nieces Sydney and Mckenna of Penticton, B.C., his Aunt Shirley, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his many friends. Rick is predeceased by his father Ron and Mother Marg of Penticton, B.C.

Rick was born and raised in Penticton, B.C. Growing up at the family home on Skaha Lake the Clarke house was always welcoming and the place of many good times with family and friends.

From a young age Rick was a talented athlete that led to a lifelong love of all things sport. Rick played rep hockey in Penticton, Grande Prairie Centaurs Rugby, Leduc Crude Rugby, and the Blackcawks Men’s Hockey (once a Cawk, always a Cawk). Golf can be added to the list, the Clarke boys enjoyed many a round of golf at the Penticton Golf and Country Club as well as in Kona, Hawaii. Defender of the mighty B.C. Lions, Rick wore his well loved, never washed, B.C. Lions cap amongst his EE fans. He made many special lifetime friends through his love of sports.

Rick had a successful career as a Master Electrician which began by working alongside his dad at Clarke and Eshelman Electrical Contractors in Penticton. After moving to Edmonton in the late 80’s he went on to work in all aspects of electrical – residential, commercial, and finally in oil and gas. Once again, he made many lifelong friends through his work.

It is safe to say Rick’s greatest achievement were his two beautiful children, Mackenzie, and Mallory whom he loved very much.

Although Beau and Braxton have lost their “pops” too early, they will come to know him through the many stories and memories we have to share.
The family would like to thank the many care providers Rick had over the past few years. Rick was always treated with such compassion and kindness. A special thank you to Dr. John Walker at the Cross Cancer Institute who “got Rick” and built a trusted relationship with Rick. Also, a big Thank you to Dr. Daisy Fung for her 24/7 support.

We will cry because he is gone but are fortunate to have known and loved him. Today he is without pain and suffering and probably naked in his heavenly hot tub.

Celebration of life to be held later this summer.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

We are so sad to learn of Rick’s passing. Memories of Rick re-wiring the outdoor rink lights at the community league for free, and of playing hockey with him, are vivid all these years later. He was warm, funny, and talented. We wish we’d known him better. Our condolences to Barb, Mackenzie, and the rest of his family.
