It is with great sadness that the family of Cheryl Kim Makarenko announces her passing on November 28, 2016 at the age of 54. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ian Reekie, children Eryn and Simon, father William Makarenko, siblings Daryl Makarenko and Cindy Reekie (Grant), nephew Cameron Reekie, nieces Lindsey Reekie, Emily Makarenko-Wetherill, mother-in-law Elizabeth Reekie and brother-in-law Ross Reekie.
She was predeceased by her mother Edna Makarenko and father-in-law Robert Reekie.
Also mourning her passing is her extended family and friends who have been supportive through her four year cancer journey.
Kim was very active in the Laurier Heights community and local school. She was a strong spirited woman who was passionate about raising her children. As a graduate of Physical Education at the University of Alberta, she loved backpacking, running and yoga. She had a love for animals and enjoyed looking after the many pets she had over the years.
The family would like to thank our amazing friends and the Laurier Heights/Parkview community for all their support. Thanks also to the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute and the Grey Nuns Palliative Care Unit 43 for the care and comfort they provided.
A memorial service will be held December 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 8810 Meadowlark Road, Edmonton.
