Charles Ewen McDonald was born October 29, 1924 in Virden, Manitoba. After graduation, Ewen served in the RCAF and returned to the family farm in 1945.
In 1951, he married Ellen Andrew, also of Virden, and had 2 children, Drew and Lynne. In 1956 they were transferred by Imperial Oil to Carnduff, SK. Throughout Ewen’s career, the family lived in Carnduff, Smiley, Swan Hills and Norman Wells. In 1982, Ewen and Ellen retired to Virden and in 1998, moved west once more to Leduc, AB.
Everywhere they lived, Ewen was a devoted member of the United Church and an active Lion’s Club member. In Swan Hills, he served on the school board. In Virden, Ewen was a volunteer ambulance driver and spent many hours encouraging people to donate through Donor’s Choice. In Leduc, Ewen was President of the Board at Telford House and served on the Board of the Leduc Food Bank. He felt it was his responsibility and always enjoyed contributing to the community. It was well known that he would give his honest considered opinion when needed and when a decision was made, Ewen would then put his “shoulder to the wheel” to get the job done.
Ewen will be missed by all who knew him; in particular, his wife Ellen, his son Drew (Jody), daughter Lynne (Larry), loving grandchildren Morgan, Katelyn, Sarah, Logan and nephews and nieces. Ewen was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth, and his brothers Ken and Dunc.
The family welcomes you to remember Ewen’s life in your own way at your own time. The immediate family will have a small gathering to celebrate Ewen’s rich and blessed life.
Anyone wanting to honour the life of Ewen is asked to donate to St. David’s United Church (4614 48 St, Leduc, AB T9E 5X7) or to the Red Cross (9931 106 Street, Edmonton AB T5K 1E2)
