CHABASSOL, Maureen Bernadette

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen Chabassol. She passed away at home, surrounded by family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Maureen was born on April 24, 1960 in Unity, Saskatchewan to Peter and Phyllis Jansen. She spent her life growing up on a farm in Denzil, Saskatchewan. After graduating from high school, she moved to Edmonton and started her career at Scotiabank. That is where she met the love of her life. She is survived by her husband Vince, her daughters Erin and Donna (Dan) and her son Billy (Selena). Mom loved her grandchildren more than anything: Kristen, Kyle, Nolan, Nathan, and Jenna. Maureen leaves behind her brothers Wayne (Kim), Chuck (Colleen), Pat (Anita), Ron, Glen (Marie-Eve), Marvin, Kirby (Melanie), sister-in-law Lorraine (Alan), numerous nieces and nephews, a large extended family and countless friends.  Maureen was predeceased by parents-in-law Florence and William Chabassol, and sister-in-law Cathy.

Fitness was one of Maureen’s greatest passions. She was a dedicated fitness instructor at the Beaumont AquaFit.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral will be celebrated on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. The service will be live streamed through Serenity Funeral Service at https://distantlink.com/SerenityLeduc-Wetaskiwin.html

Vince and family,
We were deeply sorry to hear of Maureen’s passing. She was an incredible lady-so kind and giving. I, Heather had the opportunity to work with Maureen at Beau Meadow for many years. She was dedicated to the students she worked with. She always made learning interesting and fun. She left that job but over the years we would meet on occasion and catch up on our lives. Her grandchildren were always one of the topics. They were definitely a source of pride and joy for her as were her children. Maureen will be missed. Our prayers are with you at this time.

Nichole Nelson (Rundell)

Angie Crosdale

Vince, Erin, Donna, Billy and family, my deepest condolences to you all. I cannot believe that such a vibrant, warm human being is no longer with us.
Maureen and I worked together for many years at Beau Meadow School. She was an exceptional educator. My students were so very fortunate to have Mrs. C in their lives. Her warmth, compassion, humour and professionalism was very much appreciated by them. Mrs C was always available with a kind word, endless patience, gentle encouragement and many smiles for each one of them. We were a team. Although happy for her new career , I was heartbroken that children would miss out on her gifts and selfishly, I would no longer have a friend whom I could share the day with. Throughout our years together , we shared many laughs and sometimes tears over the trials and tribulations of our families. She loved her life!
May you Rest In Peace, Maureen, I will miss you very much. Thank you for your friendship.

Glen Jansen

Vince, Erin, Donna, Billy and extended family. My deep condolences on the departure of our beloved Maureen. I have so many wonderful memories of her, both on the farm and in the big city. My best memory is of her reading bedtime stories to Kirby and myself when we were little. She even went so far as to make us our very own ‘books on tape’ before she left the farm to live in Edmonton. That is who she was. All sisters are precious and when you have only one, that makes them all the more important. I wish you peace and please keep her in your heart forever.

Helen and John Jansen

Vince, Ariane, Donna, Billy and extended family, my deepest condolences. I have so many fond memories of my sister, both on the farm and in the city with you and the home she made in Alberta. Sisters are special, and when you only have one, they are extra special. My most treasured memories are of Maureen reading bedtime stories to myself and Kirby on the farm. She even went so far as to make our own ‘books on tape’ for us before she left the farm to go to the big city. That is who Maureen was. Give each other a warm hug from my family to yours.
