CENDER, ROSE

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Rose Cender announces that she passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on October 30, 2021. She is survived by seven children: Leon Cender (Nicole) of Langley, Regina McDougall (John) of Leduc, Carole Koller (George) of Leduc, Joyce Cender of Calgary, Edward Cender (Cathy) of Sherwood Park, David Cender (Laurie) of White Rock, Barb Cook (Collin) of Falun and daughter-in-law Marty Cender of Edmonton. She leaves a wonderful legacy of 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Henry Zukowski (Gladys), Helen Huybens and Edward Zukowski (Patricia). She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Anton, her son Richard and her brothers John, Mike, Bob and Joe.

Rose Cender (née Zukowski) was born in Supienie, Poland on June 18, 1926. She immigrated to Canada in 1928 with her mother Antonia and her two older brothers, where they were reunited with their father Joseph who had come to Canada a year earlier to find a new home for his family. Rose grew up on a mixed farm in Sunnybrook, Alberta. She married Anton Cender in July 1948 and moved to St. Francis, Alberta where they operated a general store and raised a large family. In later years, Rose lived in Ma-Me-O Beach, Sherwood Park, Edmonton and Leduc.

Our mother lived a full life characterized by hard work, selfless sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to her family. She was a faith-filled and joyful person who loved music and dancing. Mama Rose had an abundance of creativity that she channeled into sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening and various hobbies such as reading and puzzle-making. She generously shared her talents and keen sense of humour with her extended family and close friends.

A private service for Rose Cender will be held on Saturday, November 6 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Leduc. The funeral mass can be watched on live stream at mattfosseyent.ca/rose-cender/ and a video recording will also be available on the same site. Following interment at St. Francis Cemetery, there will be a private reception at Genesee Community Hall.  A Celebration of Life for Rose is being planned for June 2022 where all family and friends will be welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mom’s memory to the St. Francis Cemetery Fund.

A sincere thank you to the wonderful staff at Life Style Options in Leduc where our mother resided since 2009.

I will always remember ‘Mamouchka’ as a fun and lovely lady. She had a great Spirit and enjoyed being with others. She was a great cook. She crocheted a blanket for me that is being used during the cold nights of winter. Her laughter was contagious. I will miss her. Thinking of all the Cender family and sending my heartfelt condolences Rest In Peace dear Mamouchka.

I have the fondest memories growing up in St. Francis, stopping at the store after mass at the church on Sundays; and the wonderful memory of a long conversation reminiscing past years with your mom a few years ago. My sincerest regret to all in the Cender family.
I have so many wonderful memories of your mother
and father from the “life line” St Francis store.
They were both such obliging and dedicated people whom I will never forget. I’m honoured to have had the privilege to have know them.

To all of the Cender family. Your Mom and Fad were a pleasure to know
How our family looked forward to going to the store with Dad. Picking up the cream cans, getting a treat and some groceries. I actually saw your Dad in later years and talked to him a few times. I have such good memories of the store up the hill from where we lived. Remember all the great times you have shared. The memories you shared are forever in your hearts and may they help you through the difficult days to come. Remember her with a smile and never forget to reminese about her. Through the tears there will be smiles. Ever so sincerely…….condolences to all.

I feel such a loss as one by one those who were a big part of my life especially during my younger years are gone. It’s hard to believe and my heart hurts for all of you. The memories are so good though. I really enjoyed working at the St. Francis store for a few years. She was a bright colour in the tapestry of my life. I believe we will all see her again. Love and hugs to all the Cender family from both Mom and myself. She will not be forgotten.
