Cecil ‘Wayne’ Fleming

Although it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Cecil Wayne Fleming, we are joyful knowing that he is in the presence of Jesus his Savior.  Wayne will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley; four children Delone (David), Penny (Terry), Howard, Cheryl (Mike), 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his sisters Cleone (Ron) and Arlene (Willis).

He was predeceased by his mother Ivy Julia and his father John Clifford.

Wayne completed his geology degree at Colorado College and began his career as a geologist for Shell Canada and then worked with Numac Oil and Gas.  Wayne was well known for his passionate 50 years of service given to Canadian football officiating.  As a 40-year, charter member, Wayne was dedicated to the building and growth of Trinity Baptist Church.  He enjoyed sports, hunting, beer, and playing in a Dixieland jazz band, but his greatest love was for Shirley, his wife of 62 years.

The Interment was held on Friday April 20, 2018 at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.  There will be a Celebration of Wayne’s Life at a Memorial Service on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 2:00PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 22550 Township 530 Rd, Sherwood Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wayne may be made to either International Justice Mission Canada https://support.ijm.ca/give  or Hope International Development Agency.

Dear Shirley and Family
Marilyn and I were saddened to learn this day of Wayne’s passing. Although we are far away in New Brunswick the mere mention of your names elicits for us a flood of affirming memories of our time in Sherwood Park and the building of our Trinity Baptist Church. We remember Wayne as a source of leadership and inspiration during those challenging early days. Although condition drew us back to our roots in the east the memories of our time with Wayne and you remain with us as a true blessing.
Our sincere condolences,
Vaughn and Marilyn Alward

Wayne was a great mentor for me, and a great friend as well. Had many laughs after football games in Edmonton and Calgary. He will remain a legend in the world of football officiating forever.
