Carole Lynn Hunt (nee Woloshyn)

Carole Hunt (nee Woloshyn)
August 30, 1958 – September 26, 2014

Our precious Carole passed away at 56 years of age with family by her side. Carole was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, colleague and friend who touched the lives of so many in such a positive way.

Carole is survived by her husband and best friend of 33 years, Cyril, who was the love of her life. Carole and Cyril raised 3 children: Alison (Taylor), Graham, and Nicole. Carole was also the proud grandmother (Mimi) of the apple of her eye, Lily. Carole is also survived by her mother (Carole), father (Peter) and siblings: Kathy (Ron), Peter (Colleen), Terry (Janine) and Jeanette (Doug).

Carole always wanted to help make the world a better place and was an active volunteer over her lifetime having served on multiple community and charitable boards, and as well for the U of A.
Carole was a special woman who accomplished so much in her life. While raising three young children she obtained an MBA and law degree. She quickly gained the trust of her colleagues and corporate clients, building a successful practice as a partner with Bennett Jones and obtaining her QC designation. Carole then went on to build and lead the legal team at Alberta Investment Management Corporation as Chief Legal Officer.

While all of her career milestones are impressive in themselves Carole was most proud of her relationships with family, especially Cyril, her children, Lily and her close friends. Carole spent the last three years nurturing these relationships and enjoying every second of every day. She loved spending time at her second home in Palm Springs with Cyril and guests. Carole also became an accomplished oil and watercolor painter, and many of us proudly have her work displayed in our homes. We will all miss her dearly, Carole enriched our lives profoundly.

A celebration of Carole’s life will be held at the Clymont Hall ( for directions, casual dress) on Monday October 6 from 2pm – 5pm, preceded by a private interment.

“Sweet Tranquility Basket” was purchased for the family of Carole Lynn Hunt (nee Woloshyn).

My heartfelt condolences to the family. What a great loss of a brilliant person and lawyer. She was one of our ” Golden Girls” group at law school which is where I met her at the intro to Law BBQ. I recall how she modestly bragged that she married her fantastic soccer coach! The 3 kids were so young then 23 years ago and she loved them all as a Momma Bear would. She was taken way too soon but the fantastic memories remain forever.

I had the privilege of meeting Carole through my sister, Trina, and know that she was well respected in her professional life and deeply loved by family and friends.

My heartfelt sympathy to the entire extended Hunt family on the loss of your beloved Carole. Carole and I practised law together, a long time ago. Working alongside that incisive, practical mind and charming, optimistic personality made the most complex matters easier to tackle and the long days more tolerable. Carole and I both came to the law as mothers of young families, navigating the formidable professional and personal challenges that came with the territory. We understood, and deeply respected, each other and continued to take a keen interest in one another’s evolving careers and growing families. Carole most assuredly leaves a legacy of excellence, commitment and caring, in all aspects of her life. It was my absolute privilege to know Carole. Most sincerely, Frederica Schutz

Carole has been a dear, dear friend for as long as I’ve known her; from her years at Emery Jamieson and at all times thereafter. I have loved her throughout. She is tenacious in her friendshp and loyalty; a brilliant lawyer and most importantly, a loving soul. I’m indeed so fortunate to have had Carole as a colleague and friend these many years. Her strength has inspired me; her love has nurtured me. She is missed beyond measure. Despite her many, many professional accomplishments, her family has always been the source of her greatest and most profound joy. My most sincere condolences to Cyril and family. Her spirit is everywhere amongst us, for which I am most grateful.

Carole always had a smile on her face. You never heard her complain about anything. I have known Carole from her days a Emery Jamieson and again at Bennett Jones LLP. She had a very infectious laugh and it made you feel good just to be around her. I will miss her smile. She lit up the room. Happy travels Carole and may you find peace and laughter on your future journeys.

I’ve only known Carole for her time at Bennett Jones. She was always so friendly and we engaged in many a conversation about clothing or sometimes just about nothing. She was not your typical lawyer and treated everyone on the same level. Reading a little about her life does not really surprise me. It is so fitting. Now in a better place, but I know her family is missing her. I had the chance to see Carole a few months ago when she came in with Cyril and her grandchild. It was really nice to see her. We talked only for a few minutes and she gave me a hug. She was just beaming about her grandchild. Farewell my friend.

Dear Uncle Cyril and family,
My deepest heartfelt condolences to you at this time. For me, although I didn’t understand it at the time, I always felt a strength and light when I was around auntie Carole, and a feeling that I could always be a better person, and do better for others. She carried such a genuine, powerful presence, that I know continues on with all of you, and those lucky enough to have been graced by knowing her.
Much love to you all,
Donna-Lynne Larson
