CARLSON, Elmer Frank

Elmer Frank Carlson
Born in Holden, Alberta on October 8, 1924

On January 30, 2022, Elmer Frank Carlson passed away peacefully at the Misericordia Hospital at the age of ninety-seven.

Elmer is survived and remembered by his children Ruth, Manny, June, Normie, Gary, Myrna, Karen and Jackie; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of seventy-three years Nellie Mildred Carlson (nee Makokis); three children John, Joseph and Glen; grandson Gilbert Daily and sister-in-law Ruth; his parents: August Carlson of Viking, AB and Helen Carlson (nee Waskewitch) of Onion Lake, SK and by eight siblings.

Dad was a man who didn’t know that he led an eventful life. He married Nellie, a strong and forthright woman, and enjoyed seventy-three years of marriage. They raised nine children and because of his health he moved from work in the great outdoors to work as a nursing orderly at the Charles Camsell Hospital for 23 years until his retirement. He loved long early morning walks; painting and woodwork; as well as gardening and was often complemented on his work. He was fiercely independent and only entered a senior’s residence four months ago.

He fought for his country in WWII and was rewarded with the Legion d’Honneur for helping to liberate France. This medal is the highest decoration that can bestow and, as such, it is the equivalent to the Order of Canada.

He will be remembered for his consistent determination to do the best for his family.
