Carby, William Charles

Carby, William (Bill) Charles
1939 – 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bill on August 4, 2021, at the age of 82 in Stony Plain, Alberta. Bill was born on January 15, 1939, in Turner Valley, Alberta to Carl & Rose Marie (Dolly). He met Pat, who was the love of his life in Spirit River in which they were married for 60 years and raised their family in Hinton, Alberta.
Bill was known for his enthusiasm of sports, a life long “Habs” fan and he played competitive sports throughout the Peace country; ball and hockey for the Peace River Stampeders, ball with the Rycroft Rebels, hockey with the High Prairie Regals and for many years hockey with the Spirt River Rangers and “Old Timers” for the Hinton Night Hawks. He spent many years at sports centres coaching and cheering on his children and grandchildren while they played hockey, ringette, football, volleyball, and basketball.
He loved to spend time with his family, whether it was fishing in Slave Lake, hunting in Hinton, enjoying the scenery in Nordegg, or the sunshine in Sylvan Lake at their family lake lot.
Bill will always be remembered as a loving husband to Pat, devoted father to: Val (Diane), Michele (Dave), Carlene (Dan), and Paula (Randy) and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Michael, Natashia, Breanne, Mathieu, William, Isabelle, and Randi.
Bill’s family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the Stony Plain Hospital’s doctors, nurses, and staff for the wonderful care provided.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date.

Uncle Bill was a lovely presence. His manner of speaking was effortlessly entertaining and it seems impossible to think of a time when his warmhearted grin ever failed to spread to the faces of those around him. How truly lucky were we that got to know Mr. Carby?? As a hometown kid, he was a staple, and as a daughter of another Oldtimer Hockey player, we had the privilege of lots of time spent with the Carby’s. My heartfelt condolences to Pat and the family. Thanks for the memories, for they last a lifetime.
