Orest Nick Bykewich passed away peacefully October 18, 2021, after a short battle with cancer.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister and best friend, Emily Jorgensen, and his sister Ellen Stoyko.
He was predeceased by his parents Emil and Eva Bykewich; his sister Olga Babyn and his brother Mike Bykewich.
Orest was born December 3, 1943, as a feisty, adventurous, and animal loving boy on the farm in Derwent, Alberta. He was the baby in the family of 4 other siblings and was a farm boy through and through. He loved playing jokes on his sisters, and he loved talking with friends and family, always making them laugh.
Orest had no children of his own, but many nephews and nieces; Leonard Babyn, Dwayne Stoyko, Dennis Stoyko, Darrell Stoyko, his goddaughter Terri-Em Boisvert (Jorgensen), Valerie Harcus (Jorgensen), Jerri-Lynn Jorgensen-Watson, Marty Jorgensen, Debbie Bykewich, Michael Bykewich and Dean Bykewich. He was the coolest uncle any kid could ever have.
He had a passion for playing the guitar, accordion, harmonica, and for singing; but his biggest passion was working on vehicles and tractors. He would take them apart and re-assemble them making it a gratifying accomplishment that he was proud of.
Up until the last few days that Orest was with us, he still resided in the Derwent area, where his heart will always be.
Mass to be held at Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ of Derwent, on Tuesday October 26, 2021 at 11:00 am with burial to follow.
