David Eugene Joseph John Brulotte or Dave as he always went by, was born in Nelson BC. A middle child with older siblings Victor, Robert, Irene and Nora. Soon to be followed by younger siblings Emery, Dennis and Marcel. The family moved from Nelson to Surrey BC in approximately 1948 to help build a family home with his Aunt who had recently lost her husband. Thus, the eight Brulotte children and the four Ruelle cousins upstairs made an even dozen and busy household. Dad attended Harold Bishop Elementary on Hjorth Road, attended Lady of Good Counsel parish. He almost graduated from North Surrey High School and immediately went to work. He enjoyed his time from an early age working on his parent’s mink farm, playing in the Serpentine Creek, serving as a cadet, of course teenage angst with his brothers and friends. Then becoming a young husband and starting his lifelong career as a carpenter.
In 1964 he welcomed his first daughter Julianna and son Tony the following year. In 1969 the prospects of work and adventure called, and the family moved to the Yukon. Dave always regaled us with these adventures of the Yukon, hunting, fishing, parties, exploring and working hard highlighted this phase of life. In the 1976 the family moved south to Chetwynd BC where he would dabble in farming, begin a Real Estate career, continue his construction and work in the camps while Tumbler Ridge was being built.
In 1979 Dave found himself single and searching, attended the new Baptist Church in Chetwynd and accepted Jesus into his heart shortly after. His first grandchild and name sake David was born in 1980. Dave moved to Vancouver in (1983-1988) working a variety of projects for the Carpenters Union and his own contracting company. During this time he attended Glad Tidings Church, and loved ministering with guitar and song, on the streets of Vancouver. It was here and met his future wife Janice Wishart on New Year’s Eve 1986. They married January 23, 1988 this brought into the fold sons Craig and Justin Wishart. The newlyweds moved to Abbotsford and welcomed son Daniel in 1989 and daughter Chantel in 1992. The family moved to Clinton in 1995 and then Edmonton 1998.
During Dave’s time in Edmonton he worked on various projects. One of his first jobs was on Bourbon Street at WEM. The renovation of Grandin Theatres in St. Albert and a multitude of other projects in and around Edmonton either through the union or his own contracting businesses. He was happy to have his grandson David and son Daniel join him on several projects.
Dave was first diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and rose to the occasion going for radiation treatments early in the morning so he could get to work on time. This tied him over for a while, but cancer would return in 2014 and he rallied again. In the early months of 2020, the cancer was back, this time after a few chemo treatments Dave chose to stop treatments and enjoy his remaining time without the ill effects of treatment and doing things on his own terms. He spent the year making memories. Dave planned his own unique coffin building and final birthday party. All involved will cherish that week of reminiscing with his brothers and friends, while bonding building the casket. In the last few months, he took the time to write things down, visit, talk and make restitution, enjoy music and the things he loved while facing his illness with dignity and courage. Dave received his wings and went to meet Jesus, in the early hours of January 5, 2022.
Dave was predeceased by his sister Nora Brulotte (1961), his parents Wilbert Brulotte (1982) and Aurore Lamoureux Brulotte (1999). His cousin and brother of his heart Anthony (Tony) Ruelle (1997) His brother Emery Brulotte (2012) and his Grandson David Zimmerman in May 2021.
He leaves to mourn his children Julianna, Tony, Daniel, Chantel & Dennis, Craig & Carla, Justin & Sarah. Sister in the Lord Janice. Brothers: Victor & Donna, Robert & Marian, Dennis, Marcel & Lois. Sister: Irene & Ernie. Grandchildren: Alyssa, Colten, Cody, Emily, Colleen and Sofia. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
