Bonnie Joan Francis Stangl

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Joan (Smiley) in her home in Edmonton at the age of 74 years.

Joan was predeceased by her husband George and leaves to mourn three daughters Brenda (John) Huizinga, Terri (Brad) Yaremko and Kim (Rob) Wilson; five grandchildren Travis and Colton Huizinga, Tyler, Nolan and Kennedy Yaremko and loyal companions Brutus and Chico.

Joan was born in Chilliwack, BC and was raised in a loving family by Dorothy and Jack Smith with her sister Eileen Ireland in Edmonton, Alberta. In the past several years Joan was grateful to get to know her half-brother Chuck Buhler and half-sisters; Teri Buhler, Cathy Mullan and Peggy Fudurich.

Joan will be missed by many “cousins”, extended family and friends that brought so much joy to her life. She will forever be remembered as kind, caring,  thoughtful and fun loving to all who knew her.

There will be no funeral as per Joan’s request.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Community Geriatric Southside Seniors Day Program, covenant Health c/o Stanley Preston, Program Manager.

I wished I had met your mother sooner as I didn’t get enough time with her but the little time I did have she gave me nothing but love. Now I will never finish those dam cute baby blankets she said are soooo easy. Lots of love to all her family. She will be missed.
