EDGE, Blanche June
March 27, 1929 – November 27, 2016
Blanche died peacefully in her sleep on the night of November, 27, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Edmonton General Hospital.
Blanche, the eldest daughter of Daniel and Hilda VanCoughnett, grew up in Edmonton surrounded by family and loving friends. On August 12, 1950, Blanche married Arthur Edge and they remained in Edmonton to raise their family.
Blanche was predeceased by her infant son Allan in 1952, son Daniel in 1988 and husband Art in 1999. She is survived by her daughter Susan, sisters Joyce Henderson, Janet (Robert) Burrell, Noel (Alvin) Young and brother Neil (Hazel) VanCoughnett. She will always be remembered with love by her grandchildren Jason Edge, Jerrid Edge, Jeff (Nicole) Edge, Amanda (Logan) Cheyne and Danielle (David) McNary. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, treasured friends, and a very special cat named Daggett.
Blanche enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, even in the last years as her eyesight began to fail. Some of her happiest times were spent vacationing in Reno with a large entourage of her family. Blanche was an old fashioned cook who delighted her grandkids every Tuesday night with a feast of roast beef and sky-high Yorkshire pudding.
Our deepest gratitude to everyone in Unit 9Y of the General Hospital who took such good care of Blanche during the last stage of her illness.
At Blanche’s specific request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
