Carl Edward Bjur of Edmonton AB passed away on Thursday, October 28th after a lengthy illness. Carl was born in Edmonton AB on November 29th, 1945, the first-born son of Henry Bjur and Marjorie McInnes Bjur. In 1955, after the death of his mother and the hospitalization of his father, Carl and his siblings Douglas and Carol were placed into foster care; in 1957, Carl and Douglas came to live in Grande Prairie, AB in the home of their aunt Irene Bjur Nilsson and uncle Philip Nilsson.
After his graduation from Grande Prairie High School, Carl attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, AB to attend the cabinet making program. He then returned to Grande Prairie where he worked for MacLeod’s Hardware as shipper/receiver for many years. He moved to Edmonton in 1985 and began working in the security services industry as a guard; he retired in 2011.
After a fall and serious injury in 2020, Carl moved into Miller Continuing Care Centre in Edmonton where he resided until his death. He is survived by his brothers Brian Nilsson (Sue), Douglas Bjur (Kendall), Kurt Nilsson (Brenda) and by his sisters Marilyn Grabinsky (Dennis), Leta Alloway (Bill), and Fay Bredeson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carl was predeceased by his mother Marjorie in 1955, his father Henry in 1958, and the parents who raised him, Irene in 2008 and Phil in 2012.
The family would like to thank the staff of Miller Crossing Continuing Care Centre for their constant, cheerful, and compassionate caring of Carl while he was ill. Thank you also to Serenity Funeral Services for assisting with Carl’s final arrangements. His family will attend a private interment of Carl’s ashes.
