Bennett, Ernest Cecil

Ernest Cecil Bennett, 87 years old, passed away in Fort Saskatchewan on September 29, 2022. Ernie was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He came to Alberta in 1964 with his wife, two daughters, and one “on the way.” He had a 35 year long and fulfilling career with Celanese Canada. But his great joy in life was living the life of a cowboy on his beautiful acreage – breaking, training, riding, and racing horses. His throne was the seat of his chuckwagon and his pride was his family in the bleachers cheering him on to the finish line.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 65 years, Réjeanne (Blais) Bennett; and three daughters Dianne Bennett-Hess (John), Louise Pingle (Steve), and Lynda Bettac (Brian); and by five grandchildren Daniel Pingle, Lisa Casillas (Carlos), Austin Bettac (Jody), ShaiLyn Bettac (Tayler), Jackson Bettac (Brielle); and great granddaughter Rosa Mae Casillas; and three sisters Lenna Drobner, Ivy Monty, and Marilyn Magon (Don); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernie is predeceased by his parents Alice and Cecil Bennett; two brothers Howard (Gert), East (Lillian); and four sisters Ruth (Gaetan), Greta (Jack), Myrtle (Jerry), and Gertie (Don).

Kevin McGuigan

Condolences from the whole McGuigan family.
I recall going to the Bennett’s acreage as a boy to garden (I was not good with weeds). I later got my first full time job at Celanese that Ernie had a hand in influencing. His honesty and genuine spirit left a lifelong impression on me.
For our Dad and Mom … Ernie and Rejeanne have been true friends. Our Dad worked for and with Ernie, and he is revered for having a great mechanical, troubleshooting, and practical genius.
He drove horses hard, bargained hard, and all along … a gentleman like no other.
Keep well and be good. The McGuigan’s
