Edward Baron of Millwoods Shepherd’s Care Nursing Facility passed away peacefully on November 26, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Edward was born July 22, 1926 in Fenwood, Saskatchewan, the 15th of 16 children to William and Katherine Baron. At a young age, his parents instilled in him a strong Christian faith which guided him throughout his life.
While growing up, Ed worked in the family general store primarily in the blacksmith shop. With his father’s health failing, Ed joined with his brothers in taking over and running the family business which by this time included farm machinery and oil and gas supply. In 1959, the partnership was dissolved, and Ed sold his business to the CO-OP. After a number of years hauling gas for CO-OP, Ed moved on to work for Morris Rodweeder Industries in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to eventually become Parts Manager at the local distributorship until retirement in 1991. Retirement had Ed move to Edmonton in September 1993 to be closer to his twin granddaughters, Rebecca, and Alyson, who were his pride and joy.
Ed was united in marriage to Margaret Schindel on January 28, 1970 and adopted Margaret’s daughter, Wendy, as his own in June 1972. Throughout the years, Ed’s various interests included hockey, playing guitar, travelling, camping, fishing, and a love of music especially singing in choirs and quartets. He was generous, hard working, loved spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a hand. In later years, he enjoyed visiting with his coffee buddies at Burger King.
Ed had a strong, quiet faith which was revealed in his work at the church behind the scenes as a custodian. He loved working alongside Margaret in this position for 9 years.
The last 10 years of Ed’s life were spent at Millwoods Shepherd’s Care where he enjoyed activities like bingo and various outings. Hymn Sings were routinely hosted by neighbouring church groups and Ed was often the featured singer.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Margaret, daughter Wendy (Clark) Neufeld, granddaughters, Rebecca Neufeld (fiancée Dan McDonald), Alyson Neufeld, and son, Blair Baron, and one sister, Evangeline (Clare) Heagy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed’s family is grateful for all the love, prayers and messages from family and friends and would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at Millwood’s Shepherds Care for the loving care he has received over the past 10 years.
A memorial service will be held at a future date, which will be livestreamed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd’s Care Foundation, 6620 28 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6K 2R1.
