Barbara Marie Hollister

It is with great sadness and great love that the family of Barb announce her passing at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre in Edmonton on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, the longest day of the year. Barb has left the building for her Eternal Home.  She was born December 21, 1937, the shortest day of the year, in Tweed, Ontario to parents Patricia (Murphy) and Ernest LeSage.

Barbara will be missed and eternally loved by Walter, her devoted husband of 57 years. Barb struggled with Alzheimer’s for over 15 years. Walter’s love and devotion were evident to all in his care for Barbara. Barb also will be missed and cherished by her children: David (Billy-Jo), Christine, Lisa, Susan (Jim); granddaughters Amanda, Sarah, Chelsea, Alicia, Emily; her sisters Claire (late Tony) Abbamont, Patricia (late Phil) Cockburn, late Margaret (Don) Rashotte and her brothers Michael (Milagros) LeSage, Terry (Doreen) LeSage, Raymond LeSage, late Jim (Phyllis) LeSage and late Donald (Faye) LeSage and by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Predeceased by her parents and siblings Mary, Doreen, Bobby, Margaret, Jim and Donald. Cremation has taken place.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Saturday July 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Allen Gray with concelebrants, Father Jim Corrigan and Father Leo Floyd. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and compassionate care given to Barbara by the staff of the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre as well as the Edmonton Community Urgent Response Team (ECURT).

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in Barb’s name or a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated. Barb was a sweet and humble woman of great Faith, who loved to read, laugh and listen. The warmth of her smile endeared her to many. She and Walter loved to dance. She is now dancing in heaven.  And all the people say Amen!

The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5.

My sincere condolences to you Walt & family .
As a young girl growing up in Tweed my memories of Barb were mostly of her at the Red & White grocery store where she worked, or at church on Sun. She was always happy, smiling, helpful, & funny.
Mom would send me or my younger brother Paul for a few groceries & sometimes we would return with a treat that Barb had bought for us. Mom wondering of course where did you get this because she knew that she had given us just enough money to get what was on the list. Paul would reply,- “the nice lady with the blond hair & glasses ,–my girlfriend.” Then one day Barb was showing off a beautiful diamond ring that Walt had given her,-Paul was sad. Trusting Paul was there to open the Gates for you. R.I.P. Barb.
