Myrtle Balzer passed away on July 14 after a short struggle with cancer.
She was born in Michigan Center near Leduc on May 16, 1924 to farmers Henry and Myrtle Campbell. She had three brothers and seven sisters, all of whom have now passed away except for her youngest sister, Shirley, with whom she was very close all her life. Although she did not have any children, she had numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom remained close and visited her often. She married Andrew Balzer in November, 1948. They enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing together. Andrew passed away in 1990.
Myrtle lived in Salem Manor for the last few months of her life and received excellent care while there. Although many of her close friends have passed away, she still had a few that she cherished. Her sense of humour was legendary and remarked upon by all who met her. She loved to crochet and made numerous afghans for her family and friends.
At her request, no formal funeral is planned. A private family burial has been arranged.
