Mary Dianne Arnott (MacKinnon) passed away on July 23, 2022. She took her final breath with
her daughters by her side.
Mary was born on February 28, 1940 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The only daughter in a bustling
house full of boys, she often found herself in diverse roles, such as assisting her mother in the
kitchen, or filling in as the goalie for her many brothers.
Mary graduated High School in 1957, and went on to attend business college. She met the love
of her life, Mike, and they were wed in 1969. Mike sadly passed in 1978, leaving Mary to raise
their two daughters on her own. She instilled in them the importance of her greatest qualities;
compassion, empathy and above all else kindness.
Mary had an incredible singing voice and was not shy about sharing it. She was quick witted
and had an outrageous sense of humour that kept us all laughing up into her final days. There
are no words to describe the great loss that we feel with her passing.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Adrienne and Hope Wright (Jon), her brothers; Bill (Tena),
Charles (Leilani), Daniel and Allan. Grandsons; Michael, Jasper and Dylan (Farah) and her
nieces Kim (Sean), Heather, Natalie (Emilio), Valentina, Allana (Igor), Danielle (Chester) and Morah
(John). Nephews; Bill (Genevieve), Gerrard, Bruno (Galia), Kenny (Monique), Allan (Maria)
and Daryll. As a grand aunt, she also had a special place in her heart for Alex, Will, Lia, Allana,
Kenny, Cyrus, Avery and Ronin.
She was predeceased by her father William, mother Euphemia, brothers John, John (Twiddly)
and Pat, husband Michael, sister in -law Anne Scaramella, and most recently, her sister-in-law and best friend, Tena MacKinnon. We like to think they are causing trouble, laughing and thrift shopping up a storm in the afterlife.
Adrienne and Hope would like to extend deep gratitude to our cousin, Kenny Macaulay, for all
the assistance and care he provided in mom’s final days. Thank you.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local cat rescue, as Mary was never without a
