Anthony “Spike” Maynard

With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the sudden passing of our most beloved Spike Maynard on Sept. 5, 2018 at the age of 62.

Spike was the most generous, loving, light-hearted and warm person, and he was loved and respected by everyone he met. Spikes Canadian family and friends join in grieving with those in Australia, including siblings Marita (Greg) Corra and Graeme (Gerri) Maynard and their families. Spikes memory will be cherished forever by his wife Cathy (née Lozeron), with whom he shared a deep love. He will be remembered with love by his stepson Chris (Kelly) Stewart and stepdaughter Laura Stewart, although it should be noted that Spike never ever said the word step.

Spike was respected as a pioneering icon in the Alberta wine industry, having generously mentored many of the industry’s finest. He was a proud and valued team member of the Druids for over 40 years, and will be dearly missed by the rugby community.

He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Margaret of Australia.

A Celebration of Spikes Life will be held on Sunday Sept. 16, 2018 at the Ellerslie Rugby Park at 11004 Ellerslie Road, Edmonton, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Peter Brindley and the staff at the U of A neurosciences ICU for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation,
