Ann (Annie Mary) Lawrence of Edmonton passed away peacefully on March 28, 2017 at the age of 91. Ann was born February 12, 1926, middle daughter of Anton and Mary Bablitz. Orphaned at age 13 by the sudden death of her parents and on her own by 17, she became a strong-willed and resourceful woman. She married Bill (William) Lawrence in 1946. In 1948, they had one son, Gerald, now of Camrose. Diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after Gerald’s birth, Ann defied the prognosis of early death, relying on medical care and her own determination to defeat her cancer and to raise her son. After a second case of breast cancer in 1986, Ann used that same resolve to see her beloved granddaughters grow up. A carrier of the cancer gene, she met cancer head on for 68 years. She passed away cancer free. She is an inspiration to all women who face breast cancer.
She lost her beloved husband Bill in 2008 after 62 years of marriage. She was pre-deceased by both of her sisters, Martha Walters and Betty Whitmore. She is dearly loved and deeply missed by Gerald and Pat, granddaughters Morgan (Wyatt) Wilson and Shannon, great grandsons Kaine and Marshall, and her newest great granddaughters Tanner and Sydney. She leaves many caring relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the South East Edmonton Seniors’ Association (SEESA), 9350-82 Street NW, Edmonton. To find SEESA, turn west off 75 Street or 79 Street onto 94 Avenue.
Donations in Ann’s memory can be made to SEESA or to the Canadian Cancer Society for use in breast cancer research, treatment and support.
