On January 1, 2022, Vera (Horne) Andrew passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years old in her hometown, Edmonton, Canada. Vera struggled with dementia in her later years and was in long term care. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald (1995) her parents Alice and Frederick, her sister Pat, her brothers Fred and Terry, and son-in-law, Alfie.
Vera will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Joan, Murina and June, daughters Julie (Dennis), and Susan and 3 grandchildren Will, Amanda (Kyle), Ryan (Shauna), and 1 great grandson, Kayden.
Vera was born in South Molton, North Devon, England. In her early years she travelled Europe and India, as her father was in the Army. She become a Wren with the Royal Navy where she met her husband, Ronald Andrew, fellow Royal Navy member. They were married just before the start of the Korean War, after the war Ron become a Bobby in England. They moved to Edmonton, Canada in 1957 where Ron joined the Jasper Place Police Force.
Vera was a housewife, sold Avon, worked with Welcome Wagon. She was an avid gardener and also volunteered at the Lynn Wood Auxiliary Hospital for over 20 years. She kept her love of movement by being one of the mall walkers at West Edmonton Mall for many years. Vera was very independent and tackled all home repairs herself and took immense pride in the state of her home. She loved to bake, always making special cakes for the kids’ birthdays and played bridge with her lady friends weekly. Vera was an excellent hostess and loved to host holiday dinners at her home, up until she was 87 years old.
There will be no funeral service as requested and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta or Alberta Cancer Foundation. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
