From the outside

David was quiet man with a witty smile and quip for every plate full of food I passed bye him with . From the beginning , he never seemed to have his doubts of me , he seemed confident from the moment I met him , I belonged there .

I never felt like I had to hide my scares , and I have some decent ones . He embraced me and my son from the start the very same way he embraced all his children and grandchildren . Played on the floor building LEGO and joking . And as our family was joined by estranged teens and new babies David’s smile and light only grew bigger with each of them when they came trumping into the house one by one arms full of their belongings for the night .

It always amazed me that this family could just keep growing and growing and changing and changing and David and May stayed this faithful steady force that didn’t seem to hold any sort of judgment . It was really very inspiring .

I will miss watching my kids play with grandpa . Build legos or beg for the iPad . I’ll miss the sarcasm as I fill my plate at meal time . I don’t know who will bless our food in precisely 8 seconds with something indistinguishable followed by amen .

Thank you David , looking forward to dinner in Heaven one day .
