It is with cherished memories that we announce the passing of Al Anderson, after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara; daughters Kimberly (Robert) Galarneau and Kathryn (Dwayne) Andrews; grandsons Joshua, Jackson, Benjamin and Sawyer; brother Keith (Carol Kariatsumari); sister Elaine Bissonnette; brother-in-law Phil (Dell) Walton; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends.
Al attended the University of Alberta where he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Three particular highlights of Al’s life included serving on U of A’s Student’s Union culminating in being elected president in 1967-68, working for the Government of Alberta’s Executive Council under Premier Peter Lougheed, and volunteering with the United Way Alberta Capital Region where he served as president in 1987-88. Al also served on the Board of Goodwill Industries of Alberta for several years.
Al loved spending time with his family and four grandsons. He enjoyed golfing with his friends at Legends and going to Edmonton Eskimos football games. He and Barb went on many wonderful vacations together, most recently being New Zealand.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at Glory Lutheran Church (22577 Highway 16 Sherwood Park, Alberta) on Friday, July 28 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glory Lutheran Church, United Way Alberta Capital Region, or Goodwill Industries of Alberta.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful unit 43 palliative care staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital. Their care and kindness will always be remembered.
