Alberta Mattie (Carroll) Haddon was born on March 20, 1928 in the Village of Doaktown on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick. She was a school teacher, and married Bill in 1950, who was also a teacher. Alberta’s early married life revolved around her growing family, eventually comprising six kids; Both Bill and Alberta contributed to the community greatly through school and church. After Bill retired from teaching in 1985, they travelled the world, touring England and Spain; and visiting family in Calgary, Florida, Jamaica, and Ottawa. After Bill died in 1992, Alberta continued her travels while visiting family; with Willacoochee, GA; Leduc, AB; Cancun, Mexico, and Toronto, ON now on her itinerary.
Alberta’s sister, Nan is the last of her seven siblings, now living in Toronto. Alberta’s younger daughter Arlene (Corbett) died two years ago in Georgia. Her eldest daughter Anne (Lossing) lives in El Remate, Guatemala; Paul in Leduc, AB; Herb in Harvey, NB; Maurice in Medford, MA; and John in Calgary, AB. She was proud of her children, the 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Alberta moved to Leduc in 2009 with Paul, Debbie and family and for the past two years, has resided at the Salem Manor Nursing Home in Leduc. She died there on December 27, 2014 with family at her side.
A Remembrance Service will be held at the Salem Manor Nursing Home on January 3 at 2:00 pm; followed by a Service at the Oromocto Baptist Church in Oromocto, NB on January 10. Burial will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery on Deer Island, NB at a later date.
