In the early morning hours of July 29, 2020, Lewis Shanley Adams passed away after having spent six lonely months in long term care. He was born in Athabasca, Alberta.
Lewis is survived by his brother Milton Turner; six children, Gordon, Gregory (Susanna), Gloria, Gail, Glenna (Mark) and Gary; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; stepchildren Claudette (Keith) Robinson and Paul (Lorraine) Gouin; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Mabel Edwards and Leonard Shanley; his sisters Dorothy and Verna; his brothers Roy and Sid; his first wife, June Irene Adams, their infant son Albert; and Lewis’s second and beloved wife Clara Gouin. Lewis and Clara enjoyed their time together travelling to Arizona, Hawaii and Europe. Clara’s unexpected passing on July 31, 2019 left a huge void in Lewis’s life.
Lewis had a passion for gardening and spent many hours in his yard. He especially took pride in the variety of flowers that kept their yard in constant color. In the fall, he made beet pickles and readily shared the apples from their apple tree.
Lewis was an interesting man with many stories to tell. He was a member of AA for many years. He was proud to say he found his peace as a member of the Jehovah Witnesses and was fond of the friends he made in that community.
In the recent months of his life, Lewis expressed remorse and said that he wished he could have done some things differently. His son Gordon, who was Lewis’s best friend, will readily tell you that his dad did the best he could.
Cremation has taken place. At Lewis’s request, there will not be a service. Burial will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albert, Alberta.
