MIRKA, Myra Kennedy

Myra passed away Jan. 8, 2018 at the age of 93.

Myra was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1945 she married Canadian soldier, John Mirka and came to Canada on a warbride ship in August 1946. They first settled in Fosston, Sask. and a couple of years later moved to Porcupine Plain where they lived for many years, raising their family. Myra loved living in Porcupine and was very involved in the Hospital Auxiliary, UCW and church choir. She loved to sing and was a soloist at many weddings over the years. She reported the PP news for several years for the Hudson Bay Post Review. She enjoyed when friends dropped in for a cup of tea and a good gab. She always missed her little community when in 1994 they retired to Yorkton, Sask. John passed away in Dec. 2002 and Myra moved to Spruce Grove AB in 2004 to be closer to family. For the past 9 years she has been cared for in Capital Care Lynnwood in Edmonton.

Myra is survived by her sons: Ross (Maria), Priddis AB, Jim (Annette), St. Albert AB and daughter Elayne (Rob), Spruce Grove AB. She is also survived by grandchildren: Amy, Dan and Janey and their spouses, as well as several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, John and an infant son, Robert, her parents and a sister, Rita.
No service will be held at this time.

Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be interred at Hillcrest Cemetery in Saskatchewan at a later date.

Sending sympathy to Ross Elaine and jimmy. She will always be mrs mirka to me also. I can still see her big smile and hear her laugh! And hear her singing with her little Scottish accent! She was a wonderful person and will always be cherished. I’m glad she is being laid to rest at home.

She was Mrs. Mirka to me, my friend’s Mom and my second Mom. She always welcomed me to their home and treated me like family. Never once did I see her anything but happy. Her ‘song-bird’ voice could be heard throughout their home, her church and at Community functions. I’m sure she is now singing with the heavenly angels. Thankyou Mrs. Mirka. I will remember you always❤️

Myra’s Family
I don’t know why – but for the last couple of days Myra was on my mind.
And today I typed in her name on Google and there it was “an obituary”.
I have thought of her from time to time and in the last couple of days she kept popping into my thoughts – of stuff that we did in the Auxiliary or the other day came across a couple of her posters that she made for a couple of events. Why did I keep them – I do not know . She was artistic, musical and well respected. I missed her when she moved and I think of her now as a good friend.
Rest in Peace, Myra
