Glenn died suddenly at his home in Edmonton. Predeceased by his mother Janet Marion Burke (Dec 2009) and his father William Brian Burke (Oct 2006). He is survived by his eldest brother Lorne (Lori) of Edmonton, and younger siblings Janet of Bermuda, Christine (Phil) of Vancouver, Barry of Vancouver, Janice (Scott) of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Joe (Glynis) of Vancouver. Glenn leaves behind eleven nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved and saw too rarely plus a large extended family of Burkes and Pettingers. We would be remiss to not include his Emma Lake, Sask “ family” from his many happy childhood summers spent there.
Glenn lived in Edmonton his entire life. He was an avid sports fan and in his youth, an excellent hockey player and natural athlete. He experienced many struggles in life, but was fortunate to be able to rely on loyal friends, neighbours, and especially his brother Lorne, and dear lifetime friends Pat Feehan and Kevin Hogan. He was employed at the City of Edmonton his entire adult life, working at various golf courses throughout the city. It is fair to say that Glenn became a kinder gentler soul in his later years—his siblings could always rely on a birthday call from him, ending with a heartfelt “I love you”.
A Memorial to Glenn will take place at the Victoria Social Room, Victoria Golf Course (12130 River Valley Road, Edmonton) on Sunday, August 20th at 11 am.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Glenn to The Kidney Foundation of Canada or Ovarian Cancer Canada.
