SELLER, John Duncan (Butch)
John (Butch) of Devon passed away peacefully on June 8, 2010 at the age of 62 years. He is survived by his mother Margaret, sister Brenda (Ian), sister Donna (Tom), and brother Gordon (Connie) and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Devon Community Center, 20 Haven Avenue, Devon, AB on Monday June 14th at 1:00 p.m.
PFRIMMER, Keith
On June 7, 2010 Keith Pfrimmer passed away at the age of 81 years. Keith is lovingly remembered by his wife Ione; three daughters: Dawn (Dennis), Karen (Colin), Gail (Neil); five grandchildren: Elyse, Tyler, Jay, Alix and Adam, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue A special thanks to the staff at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre for the excellent care Keith received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
MIKETON, Mitchell John
On June 9, 2010, Mitchell John Miketon peacefully fell asleep in the arms of the Lord. Mitchell is lovingly remembered by his family: Gerard (Suzanne), Bunny (Ernie) Fehlauer, Dennis (Delores), Gordon (Brenna), Dave (Margaret) and Rick; twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, and sisters. Prayers will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church, 9930 — 167 Street Edmonton, where the Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with The Very Reverend Phillip Eriksson officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Edmonton.
MELNYCHUK, Robert Rudolph
May 25, 1960 — June 6, 2010 On the morning of June 6, Robert passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loving parents Rudolph and Helen; sisters Catherine and Laurie, and brother David; nephews Nikolas, Zachery, Luca and Marco; many caring aunts, uncles and cousins and his friends at McKernan group home. Those who wish to remember Robert are welcome to join family on the evening of Wednesday, June 9th at 7:00 p.m., 9541–101 Street, phone (780) 420‑1480. McNAMARA, Thomas Gerald
June 1, 1953 — June 1, 2010 Thomas leaves behind three children and their spouses; seven grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held.
MARTENS, Peter
August 8, 1924 — June 10, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter David Martens. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Magdalene, son David (Deborah), Brad, Dan and Sarah, daughter Lori (Ron) McCoy, Mark and Erika, son Paul (Lori), Jeffrey and Lisa, son Philip, Erin and Katie. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth (Kurt) Enss, sister-in-law Erna Martens, brother-in-law Jake Reimer and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents David and Olga, brother David, sister Katharina (John) Dyck, sister Irene Reimer and two sisters who died in infancy. The Funeral Service will be held at First Mennonite Church 3650 — 91 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. There will be a viewing at the church from 11:30 — 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Rosehill Cemetery. Donations may be made in Peter’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or MCC Alberta.
LAVERDIERE, Michelle Dawn
On Sunday, June 6th, 2010 Michelle Laverdiere of Edmonton passed away peacefully in her sleep following a hard fought struggle with illness and a lifetime of challenges with muscular dystrophy. Michelle is lovingly remembered by her father Denis Laverdiere as well as her brothers and sisters; Barbara Jeffery, John (Media) Patton, Andrew (Nicole) Patton, Michael Laverdiere and Marcie (Walter) Pringle and their families; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and her many cherished friends. Michelle was predeceased by her mother Jean Patton. A Celebration of Life for Michelle will be held at the Bethel Gospel Chapel, 11461 — 95 Street, Edmonton, AB on June 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. The family would very much like to thank the medical staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, as well as all the caring people from her residence. HALLADAY, Harold (Doc) Hilliard
Harold (Doc) Halladay passed away peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years Melba, who stood bravely by his side and his six children: Bernice (Randy) Dahl, Doris (Dwayne) Dahl, Joyce (Alfred) Mack, Delphine (George) Vanberg, Doug (Cindy) and Kevin also eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was met on the other side by his parents Arthur and Olive, sister Gladys, sons-in-law John and Gordon and his grandson Trevor. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mulhurst Community Centre at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
COON, Gerald Jerry
Gerald passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2010 at the age of 84. He is survived by his daughter Joan (Rene) Hopp and their children Katrina and Jonathan and his son George (Heather) and their children Brianna and Morgan. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-laws and their families Fran (Richard) and Betty (Alf); as well as many friends from the Kiwanis and Knox-Metropolitan United Church. Jerry was predeceased by his wife Vivian in 1989. There will be no formal service as per Jerry’s request. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Kiwanis Club of South Edmonton or Knox-Metropolitan United Church.
WILLIS, Jacqueline Gayle
August 16, 1967 — May 19, 2010 With great sorrow, Fern Willis announces the passing of her daughter Jacqueline; dearly loved by brother Ron (Debbie), sisters Christine (Mike) and Lise (Mike), nieces Micheline, Shannon, Alanna, Kelsey, Bonnie, Gabrielle, nephew Jake, and many, many dear friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her father, Hugh. Jacqueline touched many lives through her associations with the physiotherapy profession, acupuncture, and jewellery design. She will be greatly missed. Prayers will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28th and a Memorial to Celebrate Jacquie’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29th. Both will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church, 9420 — 163 Street. The family expresses our heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at the Misericordia Hospital and later at the Mel Miller Hospice (Unit 9Y) at the Edmonton General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacqueline’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A life well lived, a battle bravely fought.
WEIR, Glen Arnold
July 13, 1951 — May 22, 2010 Glen Weir passed away after a short battle with lung and brain cancer. He is survived by two sisters, Wendy of Richmond BC and Beverly (Dale) of Edmonton AB; a niece and nephew, Ellie of Richmond BC, Andrew (Kristine) of Vancouver BC; three aunts, cousins and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen in 1980, along with other family members throughout the years. A Memorial Luncheon will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 1, 2010 at the Norwood Legion, 11150 — 82 Street, Edmonton, AB. Those who would like are invited to share any stories they have about their time with Glen. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
SORENSEN, Henning
Henning Sorensen passed away on May 31, 2010 at the age of 71. Henning is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Esther, brother Ejler (Astrid); sons Morten (Valerie) and Ole (Brenda), grandchildren Christopher, Andrew and Allysha, great-grandsons Joshua and Jacob, and numerous extended family members and friends. A Celebration of Henning’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Ansgar Danish Lutheran Church, 9554–108 A Avenue, Edmonton. POLLOCK, Virgil
January 3, 1919 — May 30, 2010 With great sadness we announce the passing of Virgil Pollock. Virgil leaves to mourn his loss two brothers Walter (Edna) and Bob (Ann) Pollock of Edmonton; four sisters in-law Madge Marks of Michigan; Jane (Frank) Hollingshead of Texas; Elsie Ervin of Florida; and Alice (Joe) Krallman of Indiana; brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Virgil was predeceased by his wife Betty. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Millwoods Evangelical Missionary Church, 4415 — 36 Avenue with Reverend Keith Bienert officiating. Interment to follow at South Haven Cemetery, 5004 Meridan Street (Highway 14). In lieu of flowers, tributes to the Gideons would be greatly appreciated. PEARSON, Rita
Rita will be sorely missed by her large family. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday May 24th. Born in 1933 in Saskatoon and raised in St. Louis, Saskatchewan Rita overcame much adversity. Her husband Russell of over 50 years has survived her. He adored his wife. She is survived by her nine children. They are David (Rosemary), Mark, Carla, Gwen (Errick), Russel John, Debra (John), Warren (Carmen), Jason (Donna), and Vincent. Rita’s eight siblings have predeceased her. There are many grandchildren, nieces and nephews that will all miss their time with auntie and grandma. Rita spent most of her adult years in the County of Strathcona although she enjoyed her vacations in her native Saskatchewan. Family meals centred around the loving feasts that she would prepare. 2 Corinthians 5:8 says “… to be absent from the body to be present with the LORD.” This is the great hope we have. Rita’s Life will be Celebrated on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at McKernan Baptist Church on 11103 — 76 Avenue in Edmonton. There will be a Visitation at Serenity Funeral Home at 5311 — 91 Street, Edmonton between 5:00 p.m — 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2010.
MENARD, Velma
On May 27, 2010, Velma Menard of Edmonton, Alberta passed away at the age of 81 years after a short, but hard fought battle with lung cancer. A very much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, she will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, including her five children, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Velma is survived by her children Therese (Lenard) Desjarlais, Lucille (Dan) O’Connell, Dan (Corinne) Turgeon, Janice (Mario) Menard and Cheryl Petten. Special thanks to the staff at the Royal Alex, Grey Nuns and Norwood for the compassionate care they provided to Velma over the last few months. It was Velma’s wish that no prayer or memorial services be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Velma may be made to the War Amps or the charity of the donator’s choice.
LAPOINTE, Maurice Joseph
November 2, 1930 — May 27, 2010 On May 27, 2010, Maurice Lapointe passed away peacefully. Maurice will be forever loved and cherished by his family: Bernard (Simone) Lapointe of Beaumont, Louise (Paul) Ubsdell of Bonnyville, Mike (Carole) Lapointe of Edmonton; Helene Lapointe of Edmonton; his grandchildren: Robert (Heather), Richard, Jaclyn, Janelle, Julie, Mathieu, Stephanie (Sebastien), Tristen, Kelly, Ivy; his great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Kayden, Alexandre, Mary-Jane; his brother, Ralph (Barb) Lapointe of Bonnyville; his sisters: Gertrude Caouette of Bonnyville, Berthe Croteau of Bonnyville, Therese (Lucien) Goudreau of Beaumont, Eva (Jim) Moser of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Maurice was predeceased by his parents: Raoul and Christine Lapointe, and his brothers: Joseph, Victor, Andre, Armand, and Arthur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Vital Catholic Church (4905 — 50 Street, Beaumont, AB). Donations in memory of Maurice may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
LIBDR. JACOBS, Sidney
On May 23, 2010 Sid Jacobs passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years. Sid spent almost five years in the Army during World War II. He enlisted in Regina, SK. Royal Canadian Artillery, 65th Anti-tank Battery. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters Gloria and Gayle (Ron), four grandsons, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, one sister Doris as well as many relatives and friends. Sid was predeceased by his wife Erma. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Freedom Centre Church, 4925–134 Avenue, Edmonton, AB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
HOMAN, Sylvia Adelina (Nee; Tetrault)
January 20, 1942 — June 1, 2010 Sylvia Homan of Irma, Alberta (formerly of Edmonton, AB) passed away at the Wainwright Health Centre on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the age of 68 years and is now with her Lord and Saviour, who gave her the strength to fight a courageous battle with cancer. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron, her two sons Don Purcell and Scott (Cathy) Purcell, and two granddaughters Alex and Becky Purcell. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Albert and Dorothy Tetrault and her brother Lance Tetrault. All those who wish to join the family in Celebration of Sylvia’s Life are invited to attend the gathering at the New Horizons Centre, 50th Street, Irma on June 19th at 2:00 p.m. A special thanks to the medical staff at the Wainwright Health Centre.

On June 1 2010 Mr. Robert Frisk passed away at the age of 80 years. Robert will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life Anne Marie Wildman and numerous relatives in Ontario.
