HIRNING, Velma

 December 14, 1934 — April 19, 2010 On April 19, 2010, Velma passed away at the age of 75 years. She will be dearly missed by her husband Lloyd, daughters, Karen (Larry) and Faith (Mike), grandchildren, Korey, Jason, Kyle, and Karianne Velma. Mom was born in Emerson, Manitoba to Helena and John Gaetz, in a family of ten of which she has four surviving siblings, Emma, Rose, Neddie, and Liz. Mom was predeceased by her siblings, Elsie, Daniel, Joe, Leo, and Leonard. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Murray Kirsch on September 7, 1962. Mom led a good Christian life, raising her two daughters, moving around western Canada with Dad wherever his job took them, finally settling in Edmonton where they lived for the last 34 years. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Southgate Alliance Church (3916 — 107 Street, Edmonton) with Pastor George Ross officiating. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery to follow. We invite all Mom’s friends to join us back at Southgate Alliance Church for fellowship and refreshment. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Velma may be made to the Gideon Ministries.

GEHLERT, Art

 On April 16, 2010 Art Gehlert of Stony Plain went to be with the Lord at the age of 76 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Edith; three sons, Bruce (Jane) of Winnipeg, David (Wendy) of Stony Plain and Tim (Susan) of Lac La Biche; six grandchildren, two brothers, Ernie (Esther), Ted (Margaret) and one sister Ruth (Lorne Hoffman). Art was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Martha Gehlert and one granddaughter, Kimberley Dawn Gehlert. Funeral Services will be held at Spruce Grove Alliance Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Radke officiating on Thursday, April 22, 2010. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Parkland Baptist Mission Fund or a charity of your choice.

DUKE, Jessica

On April 20 Jessica went home to be with her Lord Jesus. Jessica will be dearly missed and cherished with love in the hearts of her parents, John and Margaret, her brothers, David and Michael, her sister, Becky, and her Grandma, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Jessica fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith. A Celebration of Jessica’s Life will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Abundant Life Christian Church (7676 Wagner Road, Edmonton). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jessica may be made to a favourite charity of hers through Abundant Life Church for Keturah Ministries, an outreach to the Uighur people.

CUTILLAS, Roman

 On April 20, 2010 Roman Cutillas passed away at the age of 49 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his family in the Philippines: wife Ma Eva, four children, his mother, Pacjencia and one brother, Felix. Roman was a temporary foreign worker from the Philippines. A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton, AB. Burial will take place in the Philippines.

CRANE, Dr. Patricia Ellen

 On April 22, 2010, Dr. Patricia Crane passed away at the age of 61 years. She is survived by her husband, Adrian; children, Stephanie (Stephen) London and Jonathan (Megan) Crane; grandchildren, Claire and Sarah London, and Noah Crane. She also leaves her siblings Donna (Will) Morrow, Eve Thomas and Gary (Carlann) Thomas, and their families. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Violet in 2002 and Edwin in 2008. A Prayer Vigil with open casket will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 11111–57 Avenue, Edmonton, on Monday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for Pat will be held at St. John’s at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27. Interment will follow at a later date. Pat’s family would like to thank the staff of the Misericordia Family Medicine Clinic, the Cross Cancer Institute, and the Edmonton General Hospice unit 9Y for their compassionate care over the last year. We would especially like to thank our St. John’s family for their amazing support, presence, and prayer during Pat’s illness. CENDER, Richard

 March 25, 1949 — April 22, 2010 On April 22, 2010 Richard Cender passed away suddenly at 61 years of age. He leaves to cherish his memory, Marty, his loving wife of 36 years, his three wonderful children Brandy, Echo and Ryne; his mother Rose Cender; siblings Leon (Nicole), Regina (John), Carol (George), Joyce (Stephen), Eddie (Cathy), David (Laurie), and Barbara (Collin); numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws and friends. Richard was predeceased by his father Anton Cender. A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton. CAMPBELL, Catherine Althea

On April 17, 2010, Mrs. Catherine Campbell of Edmonton was called Home to be with her Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 42 years of age. Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 21 years, Matthew, and five children: Colin, Ashlee, Ashton, Nichol and Raeanna. Catherine is also survived by her parents, Claudette and Michael Sylvester; two brothers and six sisters, as well as Matthew’s parents, Martha and Norris Allridge. A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 between 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311– 91 Street, Edmonton, AB. A Celebration of Catherine’s life will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Edmonton Christian Assembly, 6315– 199 Street, Edmonton, AB. CAGLIERO, Antonio

 On Sunday April 4, 2010 Antonio Cagliero of Edmonton passed away at the age of 69 years. Antonio will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Santa Maria Goretti Parish, 9110–110 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, on Thursday April 22, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.

BROWN, Patrick Waldon

 March 17, 1950 — April 19, 2010 Pat died peacefully at home on Monday, April 19, 2010. He will be remembered with love by his wife Dianne, daughter Kirstin (KJ) and her fiance Mike; mother Colleen Coppieters; sisters Nancy (Gord Coppieters) and Kate (Jayesh Shukle); godchild Mandy (Scot McAlpine) and their families, his estranged son Worden, a large extended family and many friends. Pat was predeceased by his father Wally and nephew Phil. A Memorial Celebration will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodvale Community League (Woodvale Golf Club), 4540 — 50 Street, Edmonton; internment in Magrath Alberta at a later date. It was Pat’s request that memorial donations be made to “Scouts Canada — Lethbridge Area, 217– 12A Street S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2S9” to assist Scouting youth activities and summer camps. FENNEMAN, Margaret

On Friday, April 9, 2010 Margaret passed away peacefully at the Drayton Valley Health Center at the age of 66 years less one day. She is survived by her loving husband Allen, two daughters Helen (Roger) and Gale (Bill), four grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan), Nicole, Caleb and Levi and one great-granddaughter Alivia. Margaret is survived by three sisters and four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Chester, mother Anne, sister Christine and brother Albert. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Breton Community Center. Cremation has already taken place.

WICK, Bernice Lana (nee Olson)

 June 7, 1925 — April 9, 2010 Bernice Wick of Edmonton passed away at the Grey Nuns Hospital, after a short and courageous fight with Cancer. She is predeceased by her husband Arnold, her son Craig and both of her parents. She is survived by her children Blair (Lisa), Kerrie-Lynne (Charles), Darryl (Donna), Barry (Vera), her brother Jim (Joyce), her sister Kay, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Bernice’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service North Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton, AB.

VERKERK, Shirley (Nee; Tkaczyk)

 June 10, 1952 — April 4, 2010 Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her sons Shawn (Crystal), Bryan (Charlotte) and Edwin (Jodie); and grandchildren, Ashton, Fieyerra, Vylit, Jacie and Jordan. She leaves to mourn, her sisters Rosemarie (Herb), Alice (Craig) and brother Terry (Debbie), and a nephew and niece, Daniel and Katelynn. Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Violet Tkaczyk. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Serenity Funeral Service, North Central Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton. SIRIANNI, Rhea Mary

 On Wednesday April 14, 2010, Rhea passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Rhea will be lovingly missed by her husband of 38 years Joseph and her two daughters: Laura and Lisa (Duane) Tellefson, two sons: Jayme and Robert, three grandchildren: Anthony, Austin, and Tyler, four brothers: Ernest (Frances), Donald (Carolyn), Rheal (Arlene), and Danny (Sharon), five sisters: Pierrette, Jeanne (Ed), Therese (Gill), Frances (Rene), Suzanne and numerous other family and friends. Rhea was predeceased by her parents Marie-Reine and Ernest. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2010 between 6:00–9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service North Chapel (10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue, Edmonton. SHERTEL, Peter

 On Wednesday, April 14, 2010, Peter Shertel of Edmonton passed away at the age of 93 years. Peter Shertel was born in Chipman, AB on February 2, 1917 and was predeceased by his parents, John and Stella; his sisters Lillian (Ulmer) and May; and his brother George. He is survived by his U.S.A. cousins Alphonsus, Mark and Florence Giangiacomo, and her son Leo and his family; and by his sister-in-law Phelma Shertel of Armstrong, B.C. Pete had a long and successful career as a professional driver. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish for 56 years, where he was a superb volunteer. After retirement, the independent-minded Peter also volunteered at Meals on Wheels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Parish, 10826 — 62 Ave. Edmonton. ROSE, Hazel Evelyn

 On Wednesday April 14, 2010 Hazel Rose of Edmonton passed away at the age of 87 years. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda Logan of Edmonton, AB; two sons: David (Pat) Rose of Spruce Grove, AB and Donald (Maggie) Rose of Portland, Oregon, USA as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1987. A Memorial Service will be held at Beulah Alliance Church, 17504-98A Avenue, Edmonton on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Hazel to the Edmonton Epilepsy Association, 11007–124 Street, Edmonton, AB, T5N 0J5. RHODES, Clarence

 February 2, 1926 — April 9, 2010 Henry Clarence Rhodes passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. He was predeceased two years ago by his wife of 57 years Helen. He is survived by four children: Donald of Edmonton, Brian (Cindy) of Kelowna, Gary (Margaret) of Spruce Grove, and Susan (Lyle) of Calgary; and by six grandchildren: Chelsea and Cory of Kelowna, Taylor and Brittany of Spruce Grove and Kyle and Matthew of Calgary. Recent special additions to the family have been step-grandchildren Nicole (Dave), Carmen, and Allison, and step-great-grandchild Elena. Clarence was an Alberta boy born and bred. He grew up on a farm east of High River, and lived in towns and cities from the Peace River country to the southern border. His work life led from wheat and cattle through teaching to research for the provincial Department of Education. His many years of retirement included world travels, plenty of golf, and a rich array of friends, and concluded with family close by. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Riverbend United Church, 14907–45 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta with a reception to follow. PEREIRA, Nelson Alexander

 August 13, 1955 — April 4, 2010 In sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Nelson Alexander Pereira, who passed away at the age of 54. Born and raised in El Salvador he would eventually move to Canada with his family for a better quality of life. Nelson is survived by his wife Ana, sisters; Ivon, Norma, Xenia, and mother Maria. Uncle of many nephews and nieces, and will be greatly missed by his three children Nelson Jr., Marlon, and Ana Jr. He is predeceased by his father Andres Pereira and his brother Ismar Pereira. We’ve always loved you and will never forget you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 11310 — 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta with interment to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

PAULON, Ferdinando

 On April 13, 2010, Ferdinando passed away suddenly at the age of 78 years. Greatly missed by his family: wife Carla of 53 years; son Ronnie; daughter Gloria (Ken) Pickard; five grandchildren: Michelle, Mark, Christopher, Alexander and Jesse; mother of Jesse and good friend Christine; four sisters: Lina, Bruna, Gulia, Maria, all of Italy and a brother Mario (Rosetta); nephew Dary (Debbie); great-nephews: Montgomery and Hudson, as well as many friends and relatives. Predeceased by his parents Alfonso and Angela; his sisters: Rosetta, Nilda and Rita. NICKEL, Natella

 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Natella Nickel of Edmonton on April 7, 2010 at the age of 69, after a long and courageous battle with Amyloidosis. Natella is survived by her loving husband of fifty years Rudy Nickel, her daughter Gabriella, her son Thomas (Brenda) and her two grandson’s Patrick and Christopher, her two brother’s Rolf (Heidi) Hansen of Edmonton and Ernst (Ingrid) Hansen of Germany, also bothers-in-law Helmut (Diane) Nickel, Bill (Betty) Nickel and numerous nieces and nephews. Natella is predeceased by her mother Alma Hansen and in-laws Theresa Nickel.
