NOVAK, Donald Victor

 Donald (Don) Novak of Edmonton passed away at the age of 63 years on February 1, 2010. Don is survived by his mother Mary Novak of Peace River, sister Helen Hammond of New Market, Ontario, brother Andy (Diana) Novak of Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Don is predeceased by his father Walter and sister Rose Marie. MEAD, Catherine (Cay), Nee; Shaigec

 January 20, 1925 — February 13, 2010 Cay left the love and comfort of her family to complete the last of her earthly journey alone. She leaves Dick, her loving husband of 60 years, her loving daughter Colleen Marie Mead (Tim Willis) of Victoria, her loving son Richard Stuart Mead (Jain Kurany) of Edmonton and loving granddaughter Sarah Marie the joy of her life. Also surviving Cay are brothers Bill of Coquitlam, Nick (Joyce) of Vernon, Fred (Helen) of Carvel, Harry (Adeline) of Edmonton and Elias of Edmonton, brother-in-law Jack Krys of Edmonton and sister-in-law Lily Mead of Busby and numerous nieces and nephews. Cay was predeceased by her parents Harry and Rosalie Shaigec, sisters Anne Askin and Mary Krys, brothers Peter and wife Joyce, Michael and Stan in infancy, brothers-in-law Stanley Askin and Philip Mead, nieces Karen, Patty and Cindy, sister-in-law Janet. Respecting Cay’s wishes no funeral will be held. A Celebration of Cay’s life will be held on Monday February 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service North Chapel, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Avenue Edmonton. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue Edmonton T6G 1Z2.

KOWALCZYK, Jonathon Frank

 It is with great sadness that the family of Jonathon Kowalczyk announces his passing on February 13, 2010. He is survived by his spouse Elaine Cherwoniak, his son Michael Kowalczyk (Calgary) and his mother Pauline O’Neill, his sister Rosie Allingham (Jack of Oyama, BC), his brother Wally Kowal (Karen of Powell River, BC), and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his family, his pride, honesty and integrity. A private family service will be held at a later date in the Okanagan where Jonathon and Elaine had plans for retirement. Cremation has taken place at the Serenity Funeral Service. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.

GERMAN, Frieda

 The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us and we see nothing but sand; the angels come to visit us, and we only know them when they are gone. George Eliot. On February 13, 2010, our Heavenly Father called Frieda Home at the age of 86 years. Born near Stettler, Alberta, Frieda was one of twelve children of two of the first pioneers in the area. She was married to her late husband, Robert, for 58 years and is survived by her son Douglas who cared for her prior to her unexpected passing, one sister Frances Ferris and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Frieda had an enviable love of life, travelling and an enthusiasm for art and oil painting. Many of her commissioned works, especially portraits, are in family homes in Canada and Europe. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 11533 — 135 Street, Edmonton, with Pastor Darryl Roste officiating. EVANISHEN, Natalie

 Natalie passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years on February 16, 2010 with her family by her side. Natalie was predeceased by her husband Peter and son George of Prince Alberta, Saskatchewan. Left to celebrate her life and memory are three sons and families, Mike (Joyce) of Vernon, Bill (Myrna) of Calgary, David (Colleen) of Edmonton as well as two daughter-in-laws Christine and Dale-Ann. Natalie’s great joys were her eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Natalie was a long time member of St. Michael’s Church participating in the choir and ladies auxiliary group. Prayers will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 12104 — 129 Avenue, Edmonton. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church with interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Venta Care Center 10120 — 135 Avenue Edmonton, The Royal Alexandra Hospital Ward 41 and Capital Care Norwood Palliative for their wonderful care and support during Natalie’s time at their facilities. BOWMAN, Pearl Maureen (Nee; Oliver)

 Pearl Bowman passed away on Saturday February 13, 2010 at the age of 73 years. Pearl is survived by her loving husband Joe, son Peter (Celine), grandsons Cory and Tyler and niece Lita Warner. Pearl was predeceased by her sister Jean. Sc (Nigeria), MNSE, CISA, CISSP For a life well spent and as it pleased the Lord God Almighty, we announce the sudden transition into glory of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Engineer Michael Babatunde Hyacintho, (aka BABA, Mr Tee, Uncle Tee) on February 5th, 2010 at the age of thirty nine years. He will be fondly missed by his wife, Victoria Hyacintho, his daughter, Merab Oluwatosin Hyacintho, and his son Michael Oluwaseyi Hyacintho Jnr. GALARNEAU, Louis

 January 2, 1940 — February 20, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family of Louis Galarneau announces his passing at 70 years. He is survived by his loving children Stacey (Mike), Ward, Mark (Candace) and Robert (Kim); five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother Maurice (Donna) Galarneau, sister Leonore Galarneau, extended family and friends. Louis was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Rose (Queen Bee). A Memorial sErvice will be held on February 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church (7508–29 Avenue, Edmonton). A private family inurnment will be held the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louis’s memory can be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.

WESOLOSKY, Josephine (Nee; DEDIO)

 On February 15, 2010, Mrs. Josephine Wesolosky of Leduc, went home to be with her Lord at the age of 94. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Doris (Lawrence) Rumak of Millet, Arlene (Peter) Welychka of Edmonton, Virginia (Peter) Makarus of St. Paul, Ray (Sharon) Weslosky of Calmar; thirteen grandchildren, Dianne (John) Jarosz, Rodney Rumak, Karen Marechal, Coreen (Wayne) Lebid, Richard (Heather) Rumak, Lorette Warkentin, Donna (Wayne) Burma, Charmaine (Kelvin) Meilicke, Lyndon (Wendie) Makarus, Nadine (Jamie) Burdon, Randall (Catherine) Makarus, Sharlotte Weslosky, Sheldon (Charlene) Weslosky; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers Mike and Joe Dedio; and two sisters Francis, Helen (Alex) Tymos; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Nick in 1991; her parents Anton and Mary; two brothers Peter and Walter; two sisters Cora and Anne. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Mill Creek Christian Assembly, 8928 83 Avenue, Edmonton, AB. Reverend Steve Holomis will be officiating. Interment has taken place. If desired, donations may be made to Mill Creek Assembly Building Fund.

LACASSE, Marie-Rose Anne-Marie

 Suddenly on Saturday, February 20, 2010, Mrs. Marie-Rose Lacasse of Spedden passed away at the age of 66 years. Marie-Rose is lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years Edgar; three daughters; Sylvie (Ian) Rosentreter, Lyndia Lacasse, Nathalie Lacasse; all of Edmonton; seven grandchildren: Crystal (Matt), Tara, Angela, Lindsay, Shayne, Chancy, Joshua; four great-grandchildren: Hayden, Alex, Darian, Logan. Marie-Rose is survived by her siblings: Francoise, Claude (Lissette), Evelyne (Piere), Yvonette (Clement), Roger, Louisette, Jean-Louis (Pauline) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie-Rose was predeceased by her parents Marie Ange and Francois Murray, sisters Solange and Janeau, and one brother in infancy. A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 between 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service (5311–91 Street, Edmonton) A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas d’Aquin Catholic Parrish (8410–89 Street). LONG, Herbert May

 7, 1921– February 20, 2010 Herb passed away peacefully at home after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. He met this challenge head on, just as he did everything in life. He is survived by Marsha, his loving wife of nearly 63 years, his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jerry and Lynn Long and his treasured grandson and golfing buddy, Christopher, his long time pal and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Bernice Kvasnak and family of Prince Albert, SK. Also cousins, Anne Marie Toquet and family in France, Charlotte Suttle and partner Michael Shinner and Henry and Marg Baldry in England. Herb was born in Yorkshire, England. He then came to Canada with his parents, Alfred and Rose and brother Alfred who have predeceased him. A man of strong principle, Herb had a generous heart and was a total family man. He was proud to have served his country for six years in the Royal Regina Rifles and three years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He retired after 35 years as a Locomotive Engineer in Prince Albert, and then ran the train in Stanley Park in Vancouver for six years. He then moved to Edmonton to be with his family. He loved golfing and is well known at Country-Side. He was a man of great talents and a wonderful sense of humor. We have so many people to thank: Dr. Trent Dusang, Trish and Don Bayne, Arlene Jennings, Jerry Finley and the Grey Nuns palliative home care and not the least, our own family. One day we will walk hand in hand again my love. Reverend Audrey Brooks will be officiating at a private family service and cremation. At a later date, there will be a memorial service and interment in the Military Cemetery in Prince Albert, SK.

KOKOTILO, George John

 (April 16, 1917 — February 20, 2010) Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord on February 20, 2010 at the Grey Nun’s Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves his wife, Cathy (66 years), only child, Joyce (and Lyle) Johnson, grandchildren, Gina (and Kevin) Heidebrecht, Chad (and Jennifer) Johnson and great-grandson, George, brother, Bill (and Elizabeth) Kokotilo, sister, Sally (and Bill) Martin and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We express our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Unit 54 at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their compassionate care of George during his time at the hospital. George’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service at Beulah Alliance Church, 17504-98A Avenue at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.

WESTMACOTT, Reverend Maurice

On February 15, 2010 Reverend Maurice Westmacott went to be with his Lord and Saviour at the age of 95 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Merla (Vaughn) Johnstone of Milton, ON, Clare (Carole) Westmacott of Canmore, AB, Brenda (Glen) McDowell of Edmonton, AB; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as many relatives and friends; step-daughters: Jeanne (Joe) O’Connell, Tricia (Keith) Haase, Judy (Chuck) Robinson, nine step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren, all of the United States. Predeased by his first wife Vera in 1975 and by his second wife Eleanor in 1998. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 between 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service (5311–91 Street, Edmonton, AB). Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at South Side Church of the Nazarene (10712–29 Avenue, Edmonton, AB). Interment will be held in Victoria, BC at a later date. Reverend Maurice Westmacott served the Church of the Nazarene in active ministry since the early 1940’s. Even in his retirement he continued to support the outreach mission programs, numerous charities, and officiating at family weddings and baby christenings until his passing. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (Canadian Food Grains Bank) Relief for Haiti, c/o South Side Church of the Nazarene.

BROWN, Charlene Diane

On February 14, 2010 Charlene Brown of Edmonton passed away suddenly at the age of 43 years. Charlene will be deeply missed by her children Leeann Brown, Brandy Mckenzie, and Shawn Brown; as well as her six grandchildren, her father Robert Brown and numerous extended family members.

TETREAULT, Joan Emily (Butchart)

November 17, 1935 — February 10, 2010 Mom passed away suddenly at the age of 74. Joan will be greatly missed by her four sons Dan (Andrea), Dave (Wendy), Bob and Greg; grandchildren Roli (Krisztina), Michelle (Mike), Dusty and Nicole; her great-granddaughters Savannah, Alannah, Tori, Meka and Dakota; her brothers Jim (Jean) and Bert (Cheryl); her nieces and nephews and large extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Romeo and her sister Lil. Special thanks to Dr. Soni and the Grey Nuns nursing staff on Station # 54. A Celebration of Mom’s life will be announced at a later date. HARDY, A. Lorraine

On February 10, 2010 Lorraine Hardy passed away at the age of 75 years. Lorraine is survived by daughters Jo-Anne and Jean, sons Robert and Frank; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband Bob and son Ken.

MIRICH, David Joseph

On Tuesday February 9, 2010 Dave Mirich of Edmonton, AB passed away at the age of 76 years. He is survived by three sons; Dr. David Mirich, Perry Mirich, and Barry Dean Mirich; four grandchildren; Matthew, Michelle, Rebecca, and Kelsey; the mother of his children Margaret and a brother Shelley. Keeping with Dave’s wishes cremation will take place and no funeral services will be held. GRINDE, Ella

At 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday February 9, 2010 Ella Grinde went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 92 years. She will be missed by her nephew Elgar (Annie) Grinde, her neice Lorna (Alain) Levesque, grand nieces and nephews; Lydia-Ann, Sarah-Joy, Elita, Matthieu, Jayanna, and Paul. Also her very close friends Mohan and Deanna Maharaj and their children Marvin (Simi) and Delene (Jonathan) and Lauren. Ella was born September 17, 1917 at Bruce, Alberta. A celebration of her life will take place Friday, February 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Service (5311 — 91 Street, Edmonton, AB). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Global Christian Ministries — a mission organization that reaches people world wide.

HOLMES, Marion Grace (Serbin)

Marion passed away at the Norwood Hospice on February 6, 2010. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Earl, her children Sandra and Don, her seven grandchildren, and her sister Evelyn Mayers. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Adella Serbin, and her brother Jack. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at McClure United Church, 13708 — 74 Street, Edmonton, followed by an inurnment service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 16202 Fort Road at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flower please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

FAUST, Joy Irene

Loving mother, caring wife, supportive and loyal friend, Joy Irene Faust passed away in Edmonton on February 6th, 2010 with her daughter Jackie at her side. Born in Nottingham, England in 1925, Joy will be remembered for her animated storytelling, sharp wit and great sense of fun. Predeceased by her husband Jack in 1995, she will be greatly missed by her daughters Jackie Faust (Jacqueline) of Edmonton and Gerri Johannesson of Chilliwack, B.C., grandchildren Julie and Jamie (Kimberly), three great-grandchildren, and dear friends Joan and Eric Dowse and Heather Flutter. As per Joy’s request, there will be no funeral.
