RATTAI, Elizabeth
On Sunday, May 13, 2012 Elizabeth Rattai (nee Bechtloff) passed away peacefully at Shepherd’s Care in Edmonton.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Rattai, and her three children: Carolyn (Peter) Mittelstadt, Dennis (Sheri) and Darlene (Hugh) Tyndall, and her grandchildren, Shawn (Monica), Jamie, Jodi, Courtney (Brady) Fishbook and Matthew.
Elizabeth was born on September 23, 1928 in Poland. She immigrated to Canada with her family on July 19, 1929 and they settled in Richdale, Alberta. Elizabeth accepted the Lord at an early age and later she followed God’s call to Bible College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met Gordon Rattai. They were married on June 24, 1948. Together, they pastored various churches, (Moosehorn, MN, Leduc, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver, B.C.) Elizabeth Rattai was an active participant in music, Christian education and women’s ministries. She accompanied her husband on tours to Europe, Israel and Brazil. She was well known for her gracious gift of hospitality, cooking many delicious meals for pastors and others. After retiring from the ministry in 1983, Elizabeth kept busy being an essential part in her children and grandchildren’s lives. They have wonderful memories of her delicious perogies and the great times spent with her. Her talents in gardening, decorating/sewing, meal preparation and entertaining, made her a gifted homemaker. She was ever ready to serve and help whenever called upon. Elizabeth was an incredible woman of both physical strength and unwavering spiritual conviction. Her children and grandchildren “rise up and called her blessed”. We will miss you Mom and Grandma.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at South Side Pentecostal Church, on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.

Nanny was born November 3, 1934 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan to Aurelie and Paul Fournier. She lived in New Sarepta with her parents and siblings Phyllis, Aime and Linda until she married Cecile Ray Bolton on September 4, 1951 in Edmonton, Alberta. They built a beautiful life together on their farm in New Sarepta with their children Janice, David and Theresa.

Nanny was incredibly dedicated to her faith, family and friends. She was always the voice of reason and she will be remembered for her infectious laugh and quirky humor. She knew every nursery rhyme and loved to sing to the oldies. She was a huge hockey fan and some of her favorite activities were teaching her grandchildren how to camp and fish. She was also well known for her special “grandchild ear bite”.

She is survived by her husband Ray, sister Phyllis, children Janice (Remi) and Theresa, grandchildren Kathleen (Rob), Tammy (Patrick), Brent, Elaina (Mike), Nathan (Andrea), Paul, great-grandchildren Tyler, Brooke, Grace and Hudson. Nanny was predeceased by her sister Linda, brother Aime, parents Aurelie and Paul, and son David.
